two questions for the pros...
ok.. i currently have 2 6 1/2 inch diamond audio componet sets in my 95 gle with a fosgate 600 a4 pushin them. if i put my volume all the way up, the mids and highs are clear as hell, but only for a few seconds. after that everying dulls down to the piont where it sounds like i have no highs at all. its not even like i have crazy wattage going to them, but its so damn annoying that i try to spend the money on good stuff and have to put up with things like this. the dealer told me that its a protection in the cross overs so i dont blow the tweeters (which i did once already when the fronts didnt have the crossovers connected, rather just a capacitor). but it doesnt seem like there in danger of blowing. i wanna be able to put my volume full blast and not have the mids and highs die down at all.. i hope someone here knows what i mean.. secondly.. ive been tinkering with the idea of gettin a lil more boom in the car. i currently have 4 10" x-max's in a sealed box with a fosgate 1100a2. what would u guys recomend if i told you that i want clean, clear, RETARDED BASS. lol.. without having to do any major power upgrades.. your thoughts would be appreciated guys.. thanks..
I'll say the same thing the dealer said... the reason the tweeters are cutting out it cause you're powering them with too much, and the protection circuit on the crossover is kicking in.
If you want to get around this, have someone build you a custom crossover to drop the tweeter level some, or bi-amp your mids and tweets (separate amp channels for mids and tweets), and keep the level on the tweets turned down.
the other way is to bypass the protection circuit and hope you don't fry another set of tweets.
BTW.. I've got a set of FOCAL front end speakers that are taking 250W RMS per side with no problems.. 50W on the tweeter and 200W rms on the mids. no probs here!

I have never heard of that problem with diamond's. The set in my car is actively crossed over so can't be used as an example. The set in my wife car, using factory x-over, has plenty of MTX 4300 power, and doesn't fade. My silk tweets with 50 RMS Alpine V-12 power, keep up with the pair of mids sharing 125watts of PG ZX475TI.
