Help with wiring a power invertor...

Hey,

I need to rewire my power invertor (thats powering my DVD player).
Right now i just have regular speaker wire running from the battery, to the power invertor. No fuse, no nothing. I want it hooked up to the ignition so that i dont have to turn the invertor off sepertly (because one day i will forget). Also I am going to run real wire, and someone told me i need a fuse or osmthing?
Help me out.

I don't know if this is the best of options...but, what I did was tap into my red accessory wire on my headunit and I ran that wire to a relay, so when I get accessory power, I will draw from the battery enough power to power whatever accessories I need. Stick a fuse near your battery on the wire you are running to the switch.
