Anything about an engine swapping or turboing a Maxima??? It's like we are conservatives in the import world and only use parts that are premade for us kinda attitude... I don't understand why all the hate for somone trying to be fast/original instead of having a sc Maxima that can't get out of the 13s w/o something crazy done... If someone does a turbo and bump down the high *** compression the Maximas have we could probly run some crazy *** boost with the block... Has anyone done anything with the compression ratio at all anyways???
btw- I myself am looking into buyin a 00+ engine with a 5 spd tranny and putting it into my car anybody wanna bite my head off???? I know you need to change the ecu and junk but look at what the honda boys do to their junk... New ecu... switchin out trannies... cutting firwalls... rr format... 190 to the wheels costin around the 4 k it cost to get a sc from vortech put in and I would still be all motor...
venting cuz we seem to have closed minds about mods... why not post info that helps them cuz once one person says some bs like "why not put in a rocket while your at it" it goes downhill form there cuz noone wants to step up and help the newguys, that probly came fom the honda world that does all the "new" stuff to the point where there is nothing new to do so they moved on...

were down to earth
Well, the basic reason wh most of us bite your heads off, is that, we don;t have gobbs and gobbs of money coming outta our asses (moneyitous) and, we under stand that if we do that, we won't get half of the money back when we sell it, therefore we are tring to keep that fine line of being different, but not ****ing our money on something we will never get back. But hey, thats just me...
p.S honda engines (for the most part) are ment to be interchangeable, as far as i know, Nissan did not do this, thus making it hard.

I've noticed that too, anythings possible with money, and since a lot of people can't afford those things they tend to make fun of it. If someone wants to try something new that no one else has, I'll give them props for being creative. No one said engine swapping was easy. I myself was considering a 2k2 swap, if I see an engine at a junk yard with the 6 speed tranny, I will buy it and I will make it work.
i'm not biting any heads off here but the reason why the "honda boys" do it to their "junk" is because most of the swaps are relatively easy compared to what we have to go through with our maximas. I am currently helping a buddy drop a b16 into his 92 civic and plan on doing a swap in my own car after learning more about swaps in general... For hondas you can pretty much take any motor out of any honda and drop it into another honda (disclude the 'lude)
These inquiries are usually made by people that have no automotive knowledge and probably can't even change the air filter in their car. They use commonly used phrases such as 'drop in an engine' slap on a turbo or sc.' They think it's a 3 bolt process.
The new kick is the tranny swap. Just because 2 guys that seem to have good experience working on cars, completed the swap, everyone thinks it's as easy as changing the oil.
Most of these people have no clue what they are getting into, and it's annoying.
That is all.

and you will get your money back when you sell your car with a stillen sc on it??? most mods you do to your car you will get jack for it when you goto sell...
I know honda engines are easier to put in... becuase they make kits for you to shove in a lude engine into your small *** crx... somone did it then made the kit... there is a pattern...

Let us know when your done and tell us all about it.
I usually don't say much about what I do until it's done.

why not everyone get big block chevys and race those since they are so easy to work on...
did the Honda guys goto a new car to race??? who thouight 10 years ago that there would be a ff car in the 8s???
maybee the maxima drivers think to much... i know i can go buy a b16 civic for about the same price as a regualar civic with low miles but the youngins don't seem to stop swappin engines

If talked to many people on the streets with nice maximas, and asked why arent they on the org, and they all say the same thing, "That site is one big place to waste money, and the critism is wack" That is what i get when I ask people if there part of this org...

The reason is....
There are more talkers than doers.
The hardest part about engine swap for the maxima is that you can't just pay somebody and get it done. There are plenty of speedshops willing to take Honda boys money because they know exactly what's involved. They know they can do the job correctly and easily in less than 8 hours. They can make a profit and feed the family. When you talk about a maxima, they rather not waste their time learning the swap that they probably will never perform again in their life. So unless the talkers can do the swap themselves, I don't see a swap happening.

If someone with the knowledge and funds wants to tackle the project, then that's great. Usually though, its just some idiot who doesn't even have an air filter yet, or doesn't know how to change his oil, asking about swapping in engines that were never meant to be there. TTZ engines, Skyline engines, etc etc etc. It's just annoying to have to reply to these guys over and over telling them why it won't work unless you invest a crazy amount of money into it.
If someone wants to go ahead and swap a 2K2 engine in their 4th gen... more power to you. But then take a look at all the trouble MardiGrasMax had just putting a different 4th gen engine into his 4th gen... took him like 2 weeks to get the damn thing running, and the dude KNOWS HIS STUFF. Engines are not bolt in affairs contrary to what people believe. Many times its not the physical part thats hardest, but the engine management... getting the damn thing to run. There are a few turbo maximas on the org, and they make good power, but they are custom, and not something the average joker who hasn't installed a y-pipe can attempt. Those are my thoughts on the subject.

Well....
everyone doubted when I did my TT swap onto my Tricycyle, but I proved you all wrong now didn't I....you remember the damn pics!!!
but seriously I'm with 1MAX2NV, most guys that come up with these crazy swap ideas are all talk and never even changed their oil before, thats why the engine swap question gets a bad rep. but who really gives a **** if people bite your head off, just do what you have to do and prove everyone wrong. I mean if you come out making an outrageous claim be prepared to face naysayers, thats just how things go!

It took longer than it should because the dork that sold Matt the engine didn't tell him everything. The engine had problems, not even sure if it could run when he sold it to Matt. Well, I don't want to say anything more because this case has not been resolved yet.
i plan on keeping my max for a long time, it would be much better to put in a 5th generation motor and not only get the power, but lose the miles, like having a new car already full of mods, so one day in the future a swap will be possible by me
It's a waste of money IMO. What's the point of having a 12-second Maxima when you could have another 12-second car at the fraction of the price WITHOUT compromising reliability, ride, resale, etc? The Maxima is an incredible NA sedan and has the potential to hit 13s NA. Honda boys with their B16/B18 swaps struggle to get into the lower 14s while many 5 speed Maximas are just a few NA mods away from mid to lower 14s. You'll probably never see a "swap kit" for the Maxima simply because we represent an incredibly small share of the market. The Honda guys DOMINATE the market therefore companies cater to them. We might represent 2% of the market...at best. Turbocharging a 4th gen has been done, but the results have shown the SC still puts out more power and much more useable torque.
If you want to be orginal, swap in a SR20DET or the turbo VQ30DET from Japan that's used in some Cefiros. If you really want to help us out, find a way to swap the 5th gen (00-01) variable runner intake manifold onto the 4th gen. Once this happens, you'll see 4th gens in the 13s quite easily.

I think people should just forget about this money issue. These are ideas people. Ideas wont become reality if people bite other peoples heads off because 'it costs too much' or 'you wont see half that money when u re-sell it'. I think those are the lamest excuses and the fact that everyone is jumping on to that excuse is irritating. so what if it wont up the resale value. some of us are keeping our cars until they die. maybe some people have money to spend on these expensive ideas. The close-mindedness of the forum is sometimes absurd, IMHO.

I'm skeptical of doing any major work to my car because IT'S MY CAR. I think for most people the Max is their daily driver. Who would actually believe you could swap motors on a Saturday and be all set Sunday with no lagging problems. I certainly wouldn't and I wouldn't want to worry about it while I was driving to work. If you have a Maxima, it's your second car, you have thousands of dollars, you have tons of experience working on Nissan vehicles, you have all the necessary equipment, parts and tools and you have the desire then I say more power to you.
I'm with 1Max2NV, NickStam and Synki. If you need to know whether or not a engine fits in the engine room of a Maxima, the project is already over your head. The specs for the VQ are readily available online and the average home mechanic will be able to figure out if a swap is possible using his own knowledge.
So...... can a 300zx engine fit into a Maxima?

Otherwise, drop the 20 bones on a 300Z and have 2 cars to work on.
As for the question in this thread:
THE SEARCH ENGINE WORKS REAL WELL FOR ANSWERING THE MOTOR SWAP QUESTIONS
Similiar questions have been asked several thousand times, and the answers are strikingly the same. People are under the delusion that we drive Hondas. News flash: Nissans aren't as interchangeable from an engine standpoint as Hondas. Thus, motor swaps are much more difficult.
Others see a FEW successful tranny swaps and an occasional turbo or motor success and think they are as skilled as those guys and think they can emulate their success for $500......it's an ignorant approach to doing things.
Your veteran members are going to be very critical of such attempts because there is an understanding of the difficulty of such a task. Your welcome to take it the wrong way, but facts and physics are sometimes impossible to avoid.
It's not so much the money issue, it's the fact that most of the people asking the questions are kids who have nowhere near the kind of money to do what they're dreaming about. If you're driving your parents maxima, you shouldn't be thinking about engine swaps or custom turbos. And if you notice the posts about this stuff, you'll notice that they don't seem very well though out. It's never "Well I figured through my research that such and such is a close fit, if I modify this, will it work?" It's always, "Yo man, how can I fit a tUrBo in ma badazz ryde?" There is absolutely no way that someone like that is gonna figure out how to do something big.
Notice that there are people who asked about putting a turbo in their cars, like Unclemax and nobody jumped on him. Because he had most stuff figured out already and was just asking a few detail questions. That's the difference.

well since everyone is putting in their 2$...
when you first get your max you have alot of aspirations and dreams of modding the hell out of it,s/c, custom turbos, 300ztt swaps. the new guys on the boards seem to initailly think like that. after a while reality sets in and you realize that the most your max will have is the same mods 90% of everyone else has. its just a phase people go through.

I'd like to think that there are those of us who went our own way and don't go with the crowd...
