Hey maximaniacs,
I've finally procured some time to install my new deck this week, and I have come up with a couple of questions for you guys that have already replaced your stock stereo...

1) I was told when I bought the install kit that the factory nissan stereo uses a chassis ground, with no ground wire. Is that true? The wiring kit I got has a connection for ground, so does the nissan wire harness have a ground in it?

2) Also the kit I was sold is basically just a pocket to go under the deck. I was told there's no kit for the deck itself, and that my deck would install in the factory housing without any kind of special parts that would be supplied by a kit.

Any other input? Thanks guys.

mostly right

there is a ground wire in the factory harness. It doesnt need any sort of kit, it bolts right into the dash supports and you fill the lower half of the double size opening with a pocket...

Re: cool...

all you need to buy is the wiring harnesses and match up the color's pretty much. And yes there is a ground on the factory harness. The radio mounts right to the metal chasis of the center console with 4 screws that come with the new radio. goodluck!

The factory radio isnt that hard to remove but there should be a ground wire, just connect the harness you purchased, with the factory one, matching all the colors. I believe there is an actual kit for the Nissan from 95 and up thats the one I have installed. I also purchased a pocket but for some reason it did not fit right, there were gaps between the radio and the pocket. Oh well the actual kit worked better. If you need more instructions I think crutchfield offers a guide thats not bad for about 5 bucks. Good Luck I just replaced my radio and added a changer a couple of days ago...

ground wire

I am absolutely positive that my factory wiring harness did not have a ground wire. When i installed my deck i did not notice. The new deck had one, and the harness i purchased had one so i just spliced it in. When i later installed my amp and stuff, i got some noise and in the process of hunting this down found that there was no connection to this ground wire in the factory harness, and that the deck was grounding through the antenna, which by the way you will need an adaptor for. Anyhow, i just ran the ground wire from the deck straight to the metal frame.
