I cranked my car this morning and it made a rattling noise, it only does it in the morning when first cranked. Has anyone ever had this same problem/noise. Could it be the timing chain? Please let me know what it might be. Thanks in Advance.

Where is it coming from? Could be timing chains, or more than likely it's the valves ticking. During start up, there's not much oil up there in the head, so until it's just well lubricated, it will tick. Are you using synthetics?

It could help.

[/QUOTE]The noise may have been caused by an oil filter with a defective anti-drainback valve. Replace your oil filter. You don't have to change the oil, but might as well. Try a different brand of oil filter this time.

This is wierd. My Max did the same thing yesterday morning. It hasn't done it again. Only had it two months though.

my 96 has been doing that for years.

it has this metallic shreaking noise for just one second when you first crank it up after the car has sat for a while. No one has figured it out yet, but car runs fine. My 99 has never done that. Both car use mobil one with oem filters.

A metallic shriek is not caused by engine oil drain-back. More likely, one of the rotating accessories has a dry bearing. It might be the alternator or serpentine drive belt idler.
