5th gens w/aftermarket headunit

Can you please post a picture? I would like to see what the kit looks like with a single din in a double din slot. Thanks

check my home page

<-----------------

i have the upgraded audio system from the comfort and convience package. this had the double din unit, and I replaced it with the gxe center air vents for a better fit. you can see it on my homepage. I like the look it has now better than that of an aftermarket dash kit.

I really really like how that looks. I just don't understand it when you say you replaced it with gxe air vents?? I just wanna put a single din in a two din hole. Where did u get that pocket under the headunit? How much did it cost?

The Maxima GLE/SE models have a double din "wrap around" type stereo so when you take out the stereo you have a huge hole in your dash. In the GXE Maximas there is a single din cassette with a pocket underneath it. When you get the GXE air vent radio bezel it "wrap arounds" the excess gaps where the double din radio sat. I did the same thing to my 2K SE with a Nissan pocket underneath my Eclipse Video Monitor. Look a hell of alot better than they aftermarket kits that are available.

I have the upgraded 6 speaker radio in my GXE. So I would want to get the GXE air vent radio thing? Is this what you advertise for about $15?

Alright dude, here's another option for you...Check out the pic...

The dash kit is by a company called Metra. Look them up on the web. There is another kit that looks similiar to mine that is made by Scosche. Those are your 2 options, or you can go to the dealer and get the GXE dash kit. Hope this helps and good luck!!

Can you fit a double din head unit in with the GXE Vent thingie, and I already have the molded dash kit, so I do not want to replace my vents, just the stereo head unit piece. Is this possible?

I don't see why you couldn't install a double din unit with that piece. I personally haven't done it, but it is a 2 din hole so it should work.

As for the molded kit question, I'm not sure I know what you are talking about. I think you are saying that you have the separate pieces. Like the center vents and head unit are seperate pieces. If that is the case, and you want the GXE piece, you will need to get a new center air vent piece for you dash kit. The GXE piece is all one piece and nothing is removeable from it.

Hope this helps.

As for the GXE cost ... call DaveB ... I got mine for $75 is I remember correctly. Of course you could try and find it at a junk yard or something, but good luck.

Thanx for the quick response. I think I am just going to get the one from Scosche for $15.
It is cheeper and I do not have to ruin my dash kit

Not a bad idea...

I have the soche kit sitting in my room right now. I just didn't like the look and changed it out for the GXE piece, but a $100+ price difference (GXE piece + dash kit replacement) is hard to swallow.

Ya thats my car god dammnit.. ITs an alkaplus partial kit.. I dont like how it doesnt cover all either so i ordered a bunch of uncut wood so i can cover it all myself and cover MY new stereo kit. Im also gonna cover the shifter surround since they dont make a piece for that
