Courtesy B-Pipe or Stillen B-Pipe
Courtesy B-Pipe or Stillen B-Pipe
I've got a custom OBX Racing Muffler and now I need a b-pipe, problem is, I don't know what are my choices and moreover the advantages and disadvantages of my choices. I hear that the Courtesy gives a lot of noise but the fit is not perfect and some welding must be done. I also know that Stealin is too damn expensive......can anyone add to this thread? Should I go with the Stealin'?

Here is a copy of a post made by me aboout a week ago:
Dallas and I will be releasing our b-pipe in the next 3 weeks. It will be 16 gage 304SS mandrel bent. It is about 40% thicker than the Stillen model. The Apexi is not SS. We want to find out what people think of using 2.5".The Stillen is 2.25", Apexi is 2.0". We will be offering it with/without a resonator. Expect prices to be under $200. We are currently trialing several different mufflers.
Please send us feedback. We may offer both 2.25" and 2.5", but for now our thoughts are 2.5".

I bought my Courtesy pipe used
but if I had to buy one new, I'd either try the warpspeed or just go to a well established muffler shop. They should do a B-pipe for $100 or so. I had my 5th gen muffler welded onto the B-pipe at a local long-running muffler shop. They charged $25 and I was out in 15 minutes.
Thanks for the feedback guys, BTW, if you're B-Pipe is 2.5 inches, does not have a resonator, and is under $200, go ahead and ship to me now, do you accept paypal? BTW, I've been told that you guys (Warpspeed) have problems with new products when they first enter the market (Y-Pipe), so I was wondering if there is a severe problem with the B-Pipe I order from you guys then maybe you could guarantee me money back or an exchange.
B-pipes
Will Max Thanks for your interest. This should fit great. We always trial fit new stuff on our Maxima's and several others just to be sure. If you read my previous post, they are not released yet, but will be soon. If you want to be on the list e-mail Dallas, or call him. The under $200 price is very competitive. The b-pipe will be available with/without a resonator.

Ah wassup Ming, I dunno, I like Warpspeed, I'm happy that they're are companies out there willing to start a business for car tuning, and it's a bonus if they sell Maxima products. That's why I want to help those companies out, so they can stay alive, and continue making products for us.

Alright Dan, don't get mad now, because if it's gonna be over $200 then you guys will just be another Stealin'. Anyway, I can't find Dallas' name so what is his email address?

I would be interested in this. Any new word on when its coming out? I am looking for a B-pipe w/o a resonator.
Stillen is more expensive then the Courtesy. The difference is:
Stillen
2.25" SS
Mandrel bent
No resonator
Courtesy
2.25" Non-SS
Mandrel bent
Has a resonator
Also has a small crimp in exhaust. By that I mean there is a "S" on the front of the pipe where stillen's doesn't.
I was told this was on backorder

Will Max, FYI 99% of muffler shops do not have mandrel benders. Yes, you can get a custom pipe made. Remember mandrel bending does not decrease inside pipe diameter like crimp bending does.About 25-30% higher flow with mandreal bent pipe. If you have a friend, jack stand, hack saw or saws all, Install wouldn't be too bad.I stay away from chain muffler shops as they tend to be expensive, find a small shop for the install if you don't do it your self. Good luck in your decesion.

Synki== I don't have much more to add. I can only say this. Now that shop is pretty much done and we have had good luck with vendors prices, we are ready to take our business to a new level. We will be adding more products for other vehicles, Cats, down pipes, headers, and others. Please send us you ideas, wishes and constructive critism. We listen and try to e-mail people back in 24 hrs or less, but can't always. Dallas gets between 50-100 inquires daily, and I am getting alot now as well. I quess it's a good problem to have. Our Jeep stuff is by far our largest seller, not the Maxima. I have pushed to get all 3 Gen y-pipes and CAIs for the Max. That will be a reality in near future. I will post when we get our hands on the b-pipes.

Longwinded.....
As of today, I've owned both B-pipes (Stillen and Courtesy). Both the Stillen and Courtesy pipes are made out of stainless steel and both have the same 2.4" internal diameter. I got rid of my Courtesy B-pipe because of exhaust leaks. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the build of Courtesy B-pipe, my problem was the Courtesy B-pipe is made for the 97+ Maxima. In 97, the O2 sensor was moved back 6" behind the cat. There is a 6" pipe that sits between cat and B-pipe that contains the O2 sensor. My 96 doesn't have this 6" pipe, instead the stock B-pipe is 6" longer therefore my Courtesy B-pie was 6" too short. I had a 6" pipe made to fit between the two, but it leaked horribly. It was either go to a shop and have them weld in a 6" stainless extension (expensive) or sell the pipe and get the Stillen B-pipe. I went with the Stillen. The Stillen doesn't have a resonator which is fine with me because I still run the stock muffler. There was a marginal increase in resonating with the Stillen pipe vs the Courtesy. Stillen quality, as usual, is impressive. The B-pipe fits EXACTLY like stock. No more exhaust leaks either.
Don't kid yourself into thinking it would be easy for a exhaust shop to fab a B-pipe for under $200. While the B-pipe looks simple in design, there are quite a few bends and odd turns in the pipe as it goes over the axle. You'd be best served just spending the money and getting a good aftermarket one and have no worries about it not fitting and banging the body or suspension.

I too have a Stillen B pipe vs the Courtesy one. http://www.greghome.com/Greg's%20Garage/1999%20Nissan%20Maxima%20SE/StillenB-Pipe.htm contains great info. I have a 97, and it replaces all the piping all the way up to the cat. It fits well and does not leak, so thats the main important part. I've never had a Courtesy one so I dunno about fitment with that one. If you go with the courtesy unit (for a 97-98), you retain the O2 sensor on your OE cat. If you use the stillen one, you replace it.
Thanks Dave, I always appreciate your feedback. Still, I emailed you a long time ago about the installation of the Prelude seats, and you never returned my email. I assume you got sick of all the people asking you where you got the seats and how you did it?
ericdwong,
Can you elaborate on the issue of replacing the O2 sensor with a '97 and Stillen B-Pipe? I have the Stillen y-pipe and stock muffler. Does anyone know how the Stillen B-Pipe is going to increase the noise. I am looking for a deeper (not necessarily louder) sound. I also might try the Apexi WS, but some say it's too loud with the y-pipe.

As for the sound, yes it is a deeper sound. It is a tiny bit louder but not much at all with the stock muffler.
BTW, mine is for sale...
