2K2 Maxima interior

how do you new 2k2 owners think the interior build quality compares to the 2k or 2k1? i am wondering particular about the leather and plastic.

don't get me wrong. the car is great and i have already ordered a 6spd/hlsd. it just seems like the leather in my 2k is softer than the 2k2 (and not just from being broken in). even the leather on the steering wheel seems different.

however, i think the damping on the sunglass case and cupholder cover are nice touches.

Hey Ripper,

I just got my 2k2, and i agree with you on all counts. The leather is not quite as soft as my 2k1, but the seats are much more comfortable.

I heard that Nissan went with a different supplier this year for the leather. The leather is thicker, so that's why it's probably not as soft.

thicker is better, right? less chance of cracked leather down the line...

try leather lotion. it'll make it nice and supple.

You're right, but I think 2001 was the year it changed. I work for the company that used to supply the leather (Seton Company). Now the leather is being made by either Garden State or Eagle Ottowa. Those are the biggest suppliers of automotive leather.

Thanks for the info. Is there anything we should look out for with this different leather?

I like the thicker leather, feels very rich and sturdy. Definatley comparable to Volvo. I can't comment on the previous years leather, first time owner.

Thats alright, at least I look like a 2K2, and soon probably have enough HP under my hood to keep up with a 2K2.

I was looking at the new Altima SE the other day and really liked the perforated leather it had. I then looked at the Maximas which didn't appear to have the perforated leather. Well, yesterday, as I was driving a 5th generation max (2000 or 2000) pulled up next to me and it had the perforated leather. Was this a mod he did or was I just not looking at the right model at the dealership?

If it had perforated seats and door panel treatment it was more than likely a 2001 Anniversary Edition. That type of leather surface was a standard item on the leather equipped AE.
