Re: can remotes from one car be made to work with another?

hold down the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote outside of your car for approx. 5-10 seconds, the blinkers should flash indicating that the remote is reprogrammed.

if that doesnt work, call nissan and ask someone how to reprogram the remote.. there are like 9 steps where you sit in the car, turn the car to accessory, then off, the accessory, lock, unlock, and all that.. call them and ask if the above doesnt work..

ID Code Entry Procedure

To enter the ID code, follow this procedure.

Entering "Setting mode":
(1) Close and lock all doors.

(2) Insert and remove the key from the ignition more than six times within 10 seconds. (The hazard warning lamp will then flash twice.) At this time, the original ID codes are eliminated.

ID code entry:
(3) Turn ignition key to "ACC" position.

(4) Push lock button on the new remote controller once (for example, if door is locked using the remote controller during this ID code entry enable state, a new ID code can be entered). At this time, the new ID code is entered. (The hazard warning lamp will then flash twice.)

Additional ID code entry
(5) If you need to activate additional remote controllers, unlock the driver's door, then lock again with door lock ****.

(6) Push lock button on the additional new remote controller once.

(7) This ID code entry enable state and setting mode remain until the driver's door is opened.

NOTE
If you need to activate more than two additional new remote controllers, repeat the procedure "Additional ID code entry" for each new remote controller.
If the same ID code that exists in the memory is input, the hazard warning lamps will flash twice but the entry will be ignored.
Entry of maximum four ID codes is allowed and any attempt to enter more will be ignored.
Any ID codes entered after termination of the "setting mode" will not be accepted. Additionally remote control signals will be inhibited when an ID code has not been entered during the "setting" mode.

I asked a question about this a couple days ago, so you can thank Ravq for digging it up.

What kind of keyfobs are they? I wanted to get the 2000-2001 keyfobs, but I've been told they won't work with my car.

What keyfobs do you have? If you don't know what year/car they're from...just describe them.

ID Code Entry Procedure
thanks KLoWnPR109. was able to reset and set my remote, but it looks like the lock button on the other one is broken.

in playing with this, the only way you could "steal" someone elses code, is if they were in the car with the doors locked, and did the 6x key thing, and hadn't hit their lock button yet. if you walked by before they hit the lock button, or opened the driver's door, and hit your lock button, you're remote would work with their car. not a real likely scenario.

they look old. the one that works i assume is a 98. it has 4 buttons and the battery access is from a round door on the back. the key has a line down the center.

the other has 3 buttons (no trunk release), the battery is accessed by opening the case in 2 halves, and the key that came with it (to a different car) has a finger indentation, but no line. i'm guessing this key/remote isn't to a maxima.

what's so great about the 2k+ remotes that you want one?

Well, the remotes for my car are all scratched up from 5 years of use and the pictures on the buttons are faded. I was going to upgrade to the 2k+ style remotes because they are more compact and there are no pictures on the buttons...the works "UNLOCK" and "LOCK" are engraved into the fob, so they won't fade over time.

I dunno...I'm picky about that kinda stuff.
