Clear acrylic hood for $475. All we need is 5 people.
http://sho-um.com/
I just talked to the main guy Bob at Sho-um. All it takes is 5 people to commit for them to make the mold and produce the hood. The intro price for the hood is ~$475 each and they will go up to $600 after the introductory deal. We just need 5 people to put up 50% each. CF is nice but I want something crazy for the next show season and this is it. Ideally, we need someone in San Diego area to hook up with the manufacture. This way a person from the .org can scrutinize the product and help out with the R&D. I would but I'm on the east coast. If you are interested, go to the webpage and fill out the order form. There is no obligation to purchase when you fill out the order form. They just want to gauge how many people are interested. If you are serious, contact me. If we have 5 people willing to put 50% money down, we should have these hood within couple months.

Have you ever remove the stock hood from your maxima before? Do you know how much the sucker weights? I would if I can easily remove it. A car with the hood removed looks much cleaner at shows.

You just gotta love this group. Everyone is just so happy with their K&N filter, clear corner and light bulbs. Why would any other company want to make products for us?

This sort of thing kind of makes me rethink whether or not I want to make products for us. People hate anything that's new, or different.
Guys, if you don't like it, don't post. He wasn't asking for opinions. He was asking who wants it.
Tony, would this hood be able to be used everyday? And is it paintable? If I got one, I'd probably paint the outside edges body color and have it fade into the clear so the engine is still visible. Let me know.

From all the import car shows I've been to I haven't seen that yet. Would look very cool for sure! You could probably make a heat resistant cover/sheild for the inside/outside part to protect it from getting dirty. Just take off the cover when your done driving to the show.
Some of these guys think it is for daily driving?
Very cool you can leave your car unattended but the engine bay is still visable and secure.

they got mail!! is great to hear people being creative!! i m interested in either the CF or this.. hopefully we can have this hood as a daily driven thing, why not make this hood out of plexy..??hehe
hopefully the quality is sturdy and maybe lighter than the cf.. Tony, ask if they can maybe add like a hood scoop to this.. that would be a totally awesome idea, i would be definately interested.

If you guys want to design something that would sell like crazy, figure out a way to make the 5th gen intake work with the 4th gen or design a shorter runner intake manifold that gives more topend power or develop you own variable stage intake manifold. How about a catback that gives a deep tone without any resonating? How about a catback that incorporates a dump pipe that lets you go to a straight thru exhaust at the track. What about a putting restrictor plates over the dump to change the exhaust tone similar to the Borla catback for the F-Body?

It's not legal and why would you want to show your engine thru your hood when you could just......open the hood? I can't imagine 5 people on this site that would actually consider a clear hood. What's next, clear doors or trunks? I'll stick with my clear windows.

Maxima guys are as ricey as any other group of car enthusiasts. You aren't, you're pretty much pure function and I respect that. But the rest of the Maxima crowd is as ricey as it gets. The best selling parts for Maximas have to be GTR badges and Altezzas.
Honestly, I don't think that the 5th gen intake manifold would sell that well. Most people here aren't serious enough about performance to ever get it, and it's not going to be cheap.

Yes it can be painted. There's a civic here in Washington that's at all the shows. It has the same idea as Shadow's. Body color until the middle, where it's see through. I thought I posted this on this thread? Maybe it was one of the other ones.
I'd love to get one of these. I just don't think my car is in that type of show car class yet. Hopefully it will be some day though.

I agree with Jeff. 5th gen manifold would not sell well at all. A brand new 5th gen upper manifold is $$$ and all the custom parts whoever would developed. Lets not even talk about who can actually do the work and swap it. I can only name a handful of people on this forum that can actually do the work. It took Jeff K 6 hours to swap a manifold. It took Matt Calder and Ming 4 hours. Ming has done it twice. More than half of people on this board don't even know how to change their engine oil or have trouble installing head light bulbs. This community is no DSM or MKIV.

Sorry for commenting on it. I guess we all have a different opinion of what looks good, and some of you had valid points about the security of it vs open hood, etc. Shadow's idea sounds pretty cool.
It might look cool if it glowed in the dark too :P
