Which Clutch?

I was wondering which ACT clutch would be best for strickly drag racing. Sprung or Disc? 4 Puck or 6 Puck?

Thanks.

What sort of torque are you planning on putting down. you don't want to overclutch the car.

Well the highest shot of nitrous i was planning on using was 100 shot, so i doubt i would be puttin out more than 400 ft/lbs when im completely done with the car.

And the other thing is i dont want to go through several transmissions, i would like something that will make it last...

I'd go with an XTSS - that is the XT pressure plate and the SS disk (full face organic disk) - ACT claims a 449lb-ft torque capacity and an 86% clamp force increase. You might also consider an HDG6 which is the HD pressure plate (less pedal force, 39% clamp increase) with a 6 puck sprung hub G6 disk (more aggressive disk) which is rated at 463ft-lb. This is similar to what I have - I have the HD pressure plate but I use a clutchnet 6 puck sprung hub disk, very similar to ACTs disk - and it's held up to launches on slicks for me - however I do get a bit of chatter which can be annoying.

edit - actually since you said this is going to be a drag only setup, I'd go with the second suggestion I made - HDG6. Much less chance of ruining a metallic clutch material than an organic one, and if you're going to be alot of launching on slicks, you want to do whatever you can to lessen the likelyhood of either temporary or permanent clutch failure at the track.

+1 on the 6 puck.

I just have a NA KA in my 240 but I got a used spec stage 2 clutch (for about $70...) and its a much stiffer PP and 6 puck disk. It definitly grabs hard and it doesn't chatter too much and its smoothed out after the first 1K miles and got even better over the next 1K as well.

On track its a huge difference and the extra bite is great. Since I use it to clutch kick the back out it abuses the clutch as much or more then launching and its stood up to it no problem. Maybe I'll have to boost it ....

i just put the HDG6 kit in mine - the SS disk was backordered and I was worried about crank walk with the XT pressure plate or I probably would have done the XTSS...

The HDG6 has an awesome feel over stock - makes it feel like a sports car but does give a bit of chatter... I wish I had the lineup to compare but I dont

Oh and the I have noticed the engine rev's up and down faster... I guess it's lighter then stock - but I think a 4 puck would be even lighter and make it hard to launch - and because the 4 puck has less surface area it may have too much clamping power for your max... and the R series un sprung will likely chew the splines out.

My ACT kit was quite pricey here in Canada... you might want to concider others - but ACT has a good rep. and I didnt want to rip the disk out after the first test drive - after all chaning the clutch on a weekend on your only method of transportation is quite stressful as it is... possiby even dumb.

IMHO +1 G6 0 SS -1 G4 -1 R6 -2 R4
