I wouldnt reccomend it....I use 5w-30 most of the time, occasionally 10w-30.

I accidentally purchased 5w-40 Amsoil Synthetic at the local NAPA...I've been running it for just about 8kmi. No issues. During the summer it wouldn't really matter cause it's so warm out. But in the winter...hell no.

Youll be fine, I use 20W-50, If you kinda worried you can thin it out with some 5W-30.

MULTIGRADE OIL, Definition: Oil that meets certain low-temperature and high-temperature requirements simultaneously (e.g., SAE 5W-40).

Multi-weight oils (such as 5w-40) are a new invention made possible by adding polymers to oil. The polymers allow the oil to have different weights at different temperatures. The first number indicates the viscosity of the oil at a cold temperature, while the second number indicates the viscosity at operating temperature

Another way of looking at multi-vis oils is to think of a 5W-40 as a 5 weight oil that will not thin more than a 40 weight would when hot.

I don't think you will have any issues.
