This doesn't always fix the shimmy problem. There could be other sources of shimmy that need to be corrected...

Hope this helps

No.

It exacerbates the problem.

The "cause" of the shimmy is that Nissan installed steering bushings that were too small for the car. They fixed that in 2005.

The "reasons" the car shimmies are from anything that causes the least bit vibration - as I said, it is multiplied by the weak bushing and hence you feel the wheel vibrating so heavily.

I discovered that when I removed that piece months ago that my shimmy went away - the lip on it vibrates at certain speeds and causes the car to shake.

However, there is any number of things that can cause it - from the smallest thing (such as unequal, high or low tire pressures) to the biggest things (bent rims, alignment).

Anything can cause it that throws the car out of whack - its just on the 2004's any small out of wack problem becomes a major issue.

so.

If we really want to fix the shimmy, is it possible to upgrade the steering wheel bushings to the 2005?

Is that plastic cover with this lip on safe to remove? I mean, it looks like it helps keep water and crap from getting into the engine area from below...
