Q45 on 5.5 gen BBK upgrade question

Since all the useful links are not working...I too need to seek some advise. I want to spend about $500 to upgrade my brakes. I'm now deciding on either the q45 2 pistons calipers or the single piston A34 calipers. I have heard great reviews on both and now I found a good set of the q45 calipers but not sure which year model of the calipers are the correct ones. Or should I stick with the A34?

Why dont you upgrade to a 4 piston caliper?
If you want a deal on a34 brakes here you go

I am usinf Q45 calipers with 300ZX rotors on my car and the braking is unreal. The pedal feel is rock solid and feedback is wonderful. I highly recommend these calipers since they dont throw off bias as much as if you had zx calipers

what do I need for this Q45 caliper upgrade? Is it do-able with the A34 12.6" rotors? I have been searching for the parts...when you purchase the calipers, are they supposed to come with the torque members (the bracket-looking metal piece around the main piston caliper piece)? What are the advantage and dis-advantage of the Q45 vs. A34 calipers? How is the fitmant on the 5.5 gens? If I do the A34 caliper instead, I'll order the parts from DaveB but one question, do I have to use any of the old parts from my caliper...any parts that need to be swapped or its it just simple bolt on? Thanks

Thanks Irish, but the Q45 caliper link is still dead. One more question, how did u like your A34 upgrade when you had it before. What is your view on the old 2 pistons vs. new single piston calipers?

The A34 setup was actually quite nice in terms of braking power (use hawk HPS pads). The main reason I took it off was that it was really heavy and I wanted a lighter setup for autocross, etc.

It's a nice, simple brake system that is reliable and bolts up. And it doesn't cost much to setup.....

I haven't used the Q45 setup, so I can't comment on it.

I am running the Q45 Caliper and 300ZX rotor on my car with OEM NISSAN Pads. I love it the power is there when it comes to braking. I have a 99 5mt with ABS so I am lucky but if I stomp the brakes at 80+mph it will lock them and activate the ABS. Stopping distances are nuts compared to stock,. Pedal feel is solid and progessive. I can tell the feedback of how much to stop this bad boy. Only problem is its nerve racking driving in my bumper to bumper traffic in the morning since it would be so easy to get rear ended now.

I have both A34 calipers and the Q calipers. the advantage of the 2 piston is it distributes force more evenly across the pads since there are 2 smaller pistons instead of 1.

Only down side is if you need brackets

This is probably a good thread to read. For your newer Gen maxima, you have to drill out one set of bracket holes to accomodate the larger bolts. But that's it.

Problem is I just sent the last set of brackets out to customers yesterday. What is your timeline? I usually wait until I get at least 3-5 parties interested before I shell out $500+ on a new batch of brackets/rings.

Unbolt your stock calipers (leave the line attached) and install the Q unit. Put the wheel back on. Make sure you have at LEAST another 3/8" clearance from the caliper to the spoke. And make sure you measure from where the caliper will be when the bracket is one. ie.. it will be further out diameter-wise to accomodate the larger rotor.

I meant fitment as of aligning everything to work. Do u seriously think I will have issues with the wheel clearance? It's the SSR-C 18" 42 is the offset. Thanks

I don't quite understand. Many have used my stuff for 3rd/4th/5th gens. I don't think you have to worry about that. I'd be more worried about wheel clearance. There is a thread about what wheels clear what. SSR's have a good design that "might" clear. But I can't say 100%.

LOL...sorry I didnt make myself clear enough. I'm not worried about your brackets at all... I was just worried about the Q45 calipers fitting right onto the 5.5 gens. All the people that has installed with your brackets have said nothing but great things about them. But nobody here has tried the Q45 calipers on the 5.5 gens yet. Anyways, if it clears the z32 caliper...it should clear the Q45 calipers right?

The Q and Z calipers have the same mounting dimensions. People have used these two calipers interchangibly on their 3rd/4th and 5th gens.

Yes, I'd say if your wheels clear the Z piston, it should clear the Q calipers easy

Update: I ended up ordering the Wilwood 4 pistons brakes from fastbrake. They are currently on backorder though. The deal was hard to pass.
