Z31 Turbo engine swap? '94 GXE

if i buy a VG30ET can i just swap it into my '94 GXE? [i think] its essentially the same engine, but since in the Z31 its mounted for F/R, are there any motor mount issues or anything with installing one in a Maxima? if not, what all would i need for the swap? just the complete engine and the ECU/wiring harness? is the cooling system, PS system, A/C, etc of my GXE all compatible? does the Maxima transmission bolt up without issue?

basically i am thinking of buying a 1985 Z31 Turbo running parts car w/ only 91k miles for $400 local (rear end hit, frame damage, totaled) and wondering how simply the engine would swap over. i have seen a couple people on this site and on cardomain that have done so, i need to know more about it.

thanx!

it's not a bolt in swap. you need to either move the motor mount or move the turbo. and that's only 1 part of the swap

If you have any auto with no intention of doing a 5-swap.... Forget about it.

Use the search option there is a ton of info already here.

generally forums are for asking questions, getting helpful answers, and discussing things related to the forum. am i to assume you were born knowing everything you know now, without having to ask questions?

i do intend to install a 92-94 Maxima SE 5spd as part of it, yeah. i hate automatic transmissions, it takes all the fun out of driving, IMO.

this is true of most project cars, unless its restoring a split-window Sting Ray Corvette...

Anyway:
i would not be doing the swap until next spring. i would modify the engine some, upgrade the fuel system, cams, etc. i am currently researching fuel system and other such upgrades.

okay so i would need to relocate the turbo somehow to mount it in my Max? i cant weld, unfortunately. is there anybody on the board that will make custom manifolds and downpipe setups, so i can do this?

is the Maxima A/C system, cooling system, power steering, etc all compatible or am i gonna need to do something about that stuff, too?

let me lay out my long-term plan- over the next couple years i want to build up my '94 GXE into a good looking, decently fast daily cruiser. i plan to do some suspension and brake work, some visual work (Stillen, paint, wheels), and a new Kenwood system. as far as performance goes, i would like to have a car that has 250-300whp, still has air conditioning, and is reliable enough to be a daily driver. i am not looking for enough power to break 12s or anything, just something that is fun to drive and enables me to stomp on things from Hondas to stock Mustangs. if there is a better way to achieve this power goal then a Z31 turbo engine, barring N2O, please enlighten me.

PS. the forum will NOT let me run a search, i don't know why, so here i am asking questions that have probably been asked before. sorry, and i appreciate any useful and informative answers.

donate $20 and then you can search. standard procedure

and honestly you had better get some sticky freaking tires to take a turbo 5spd with nitrous..... because FWD was not made for racing. it was made for convenience, economy-sizing, and incliment weather.

Oh my..what happened here?

dragon:You have started quite a few threads lately, most of which could have been answered with the search function..I strongly recommend you donate the $20 for the search function(right now,the donation page is down due to the recent server virus infection, but it should be back up soon)it is the best mod you can do for your car.

Have you looked through the stickies at the top of the page yet? Their is a write up in the mod sticky about turbos,I urge you to check it and all the other stickies out before starting new threads.

Good luck with the turbo project.
