I had a similar problem on my 95 a couple of years ago. What happend was the drain tube actually disconnected and water was running down inside the driver side front pillar in to the carpet. If you open the sunroof, you will see a hole in each side in the front corners of the sunroof opening. First make sure they are not blocked with crud. If so, you are lucky. Clean it out and hopefully that will do it. I did not try to stick something down to see if there was a blockage farther down. I guess you could run a small wire down it. I would be careful not to knock the tube loose. I took the the roof liner and pillar covers loose enough to pull them back to see the tube and reconnect it to the nipple just under the drain hole. Good luck.

k, well the drain tubes are fine.
I was just messing with the sunroof right now and I figured out where its leaking through.
its in the back side of the sunroof. where it open when you tilt it. there is no drain under that part of the sunroof.

Is there supposed to be a drain there? I'm not the first owner of the car so who knows what the other guy did too it.
I think there should be a drain there too.
can someone please check and see if they have one?

Yes there's a drain in the back but you won't be able to see it. It's further back into the corners.

Which part of the interior is wet??

the shade is wet the headliner is wet. water is even dripping aout of my accessory light and sunroof switches. its all flooded.

I see the drain that goes further back into the corners, but is there supossed to be anything right under that crack between the sunroof and the roof? where I drew the arrows. Thats where the water gets in.

I know where its leaking, I just need to figure out why theres nothing there to stop the water from getting into the car.

can you guys look at your cars and see how it works for you? I really think that I might just be missing a drain or some other part.

In the short time I have had my maxima, I have discovered that when you close the sunroof all the way, it is not fully closed, at highway speeds you can hear that it is open, if you tap the open once, it is closed. This might be something that is just wrong with my roof but thought I would put it out there as a posibility. I however have not had it rain yet since I have gotten my car. So I will be keeping my fingers crossed it is not going to be a leaky roof. I never really thought about it until I read this thread.

here is the link that i used. i found it on vqpower.......http://www.vqpower.com/v2/readarticle.php?article_id=43. there is also a link in the exterior mods but it takes you to the red clear tails so dont try to use that. if a moderator could fix that it would be nice.

Vasoline liberally smeared on the rubber seal works wonders in some cases...................

I wish it would work here but the gap is just too big.

I wonder how it's supposed to work on these cars?

Guys, can you please look at your sunroofs and tell me how your work.

I couldnt figure it out bro, just looked at mine. Funny thing is i've left my sunroof open in the rain and even then i still dont get water in, its like i have a bubble around my car. If the water is really that bad i'd take it to a nissan stealership and have them look at it before the water damage gets pricier than the repair work.

are you sure it closes all the way down? I just went to michigan for the psu mich game and on the way back it sounded like i was in a 747 and not a maxima. I took a look at it a little later and saw that in the very front (closest to the windshield) there was something stuck in the rail and the roof didnt tilt all the way to become flush with the roof (hence the noise). It could be something as simple as that if you say that the gap is really wide. Check the simple things first.

I wish it was something that simple, but it's not. the roof closes all the way.
Maybe I just need to replace the rubber seal around the sunroof.

K, so i looked at a friends maxima today and I figured what was wrong with mine.
I'm missing a drain in the back side of the sunroof, just as I thought. ( the part that opens up when you use the tilt function)

this picture was taken from the driver's side and you can see the drain there circled in red.

I just hope I can find this at a junk yard.
