Tried searching and was not having any luck. Is it possible for the average Joe wrencher to replace a rear caliper? My rear passenger is starting to stick and I want to replace it. I am somewhat familiar with working on cars. Used to do all the work on my Jeep. But the Max I have yet to really play around with.

 

It shouldn't be that hard, just make sure you have a line wrench so you can get the brake line off, a regular open ended box wrench will round the head off.

 

Pretty straightforward job. Just get remanufactured calipers. Not worth the hassle rebuilding them yourself.

 

you dont need a line wrench or need to remove a brake line....just use a 14mm ( i believe 14) 6 point socket with the caliper still bolted...unbolt caliper...voila.

 

Um, you are going to have to take the line loose from the caliper...

But I didn't remember if the line went directly into the caliper(double flare), or if there was a banjo bolt. It's been a while since I screwed w/ my rears...

 

Banjo bolt for the rear. Just remember DON'T overtighten the banjo bolt when re-installing!

 

You need to bleed the brakes as well correct?

 

oh yes. and it's not a very hard job like everyone else is saying.

 

easy job takes no more then ten min side. make sure have some to help you bleed the brakes. remove e-brake cable, if i remember it's on bolt on the caliper. good luck

thats not a line, its a brake hose wth a banjo fitting. ive never seen a caliper with a hardline connected to it. unless its a drum brake system, then obviously there would be a hardline to the wheel cylinder.

 

It's definitely a brake hose, cause the caliper floats.

And a rear caliper replacement IS a very simple job.
