Painting all clear tails - 95/96

Hey guys,

I am about to pick up a set of rear full clear turn taillights for my car. I will be painting it to make red/clear tails using Testor's transparent candy apple paint.

My question is: Should I paint the outside of the lense or the inside? Does it make a difference? I feel I should paint the inside to keep it smooth on the outside.

Thoughts? Experiences?

Thanks,
David

I wouldn't paint the outside... it will flake off easier... and be prone to scratches...

come to think of it I probably wouldnt paint the inside either - if it runs then it can look like real ****... and is Testor's paint suitable?? isn't it for like scale model cars that sit indoors??

Paint the inside, not the outside. Testors paint doesnt hold up to the elements for ****.

I actually painted the outside of my 89 corollas headlights.

I just put a few coats of clear, and it came out fine.
Didnt have it for long though, i sold it after about a month, but i didnt have any problems with it during that time.

If you can paint the inside just as easily as the outside, you might as well just paint the insides though.

Heres a few pics

it would look f-in awesome if i did VIP it out but at the cost of too many problems and too much money for such an old car. i so wish they made a widebody for this car though.

g4nismo: they're Work Eurolines.

I am painting mine on the inside. Testors paint is the paint to use. I actually have them opened up right now. I will also be selling once I am done with painting them. Nothing wrong with them Im just headed in a different direction for now.

You have a PM.
I also have more plans for them now. Since my car is 'blacked-out', I will be tinting the red using niteshades on the red/clear leaving only the clear on top. I think it will look great, but we'll see when I actually do it. I can always take the niteshades off.

Yes I've been looking at your car and really like the tails. It will look different since my car is all dark and your car is white, which contrasts the black/clear very well. I'll post pics in the member section when I get done, but that won't be for a while, it's cold and raining here.
