Settings of Illumina Shocks

I'm installing my illuminas tomorrow and i was wondering what setting everyone was using for the front and back of the car. Should I go stiffer at the front and softer in the back, or just keep it both soft?

I use 1 at both ends but I'm an old fart with a 75mile/day commute and I don't like getting my teeth knocked out. To me, the illuminas/springs seem to be rather oversprung anyway.

1 all the way around. I have se manual springs in the front and gle auto springs in the back. Mine feels great. trust me i had h&R springs it does not feel good. Unless your control arms, tie rods and end links are new then have fun.

Heh thanks guys, yeah I was thinking of doing 1 all the way around. But maybe I will try to do 2 in front and 1 at the back just to get the front a little tighter.

Uhh...wtf? I run 4 front and back as a daily driver. It's not that stiff, even with a drop.

Yeah i guess it depends on quite a few things, like rim size, tires, condition of suspension. Just going to play around until i get a perfect mixture.

3/2 here on tokico lowering springs with stock 16" wheels. I messed around with settings over the last 3 years and this seems to have the best of both worlds.

Interesting, i'm running them on 1s right now. They are really soft, not used to it because i drove around on the SE springs which are much stiffer but its not a bad thing. I might give 3/2 a try.

more ppl seem to prefer softer setting for the rear? what would be the reason behind this understeer?

5/5. I'd experiment w/other settings, but too lazy to pull the trunk liner back. PITA and I'd say dumb design on Tok's part, but whatevers.

Yeah one does definently feel too soft, im used to the stiff suspension of SEs so i might bump it up to 3s all around and 4s in a week to see a different.

I think some of the settings also have something to do with the springs as well. If you are running stiffer aftermarket springs than another then the settings could differ. I bought the whole Tokico package with the tokico springs. Others may have springs with different ratings so you could end up pretty much testing the settings yourself to see how you like it with your set up. I also have a 5th gen FSTB and an ADDCO RSB. Tires I think have something to do with them as well because I run 17x7's on 235/45 tires and it feels a little softer than when running my factory rims and tires. When I ran the 4f/3r on the factory tires and rims the 4f/3r setting felt stiffer.

Yeah i got the whole tokico package. I agree i think the springs play a major role in the settings.

I'm running 2/2 stock wheels 16 & stock springs. Still seems a little jarring for my tastes. I'm going to try doing 1/1.

I've got Eibachs on mine. For a while I had been running 4F 5R. I thought that might help counter understeer a tiny bit. I doubt running the front softet actually helped counter understeer, I bumped it to 5F 5R now and I love it. Stiff, but not bad if you drive on decent roads.

One thing possibly to take into account: Tuning to the humps on elevated freeways. I had to experiment to find a sweet spot that damped out the bounciness. And BTW, that set of Illuminas, plus a FSTB, transformed the car. It really handles great - good turn in, good stickem, not much body roll. The only thing I'm still unhappy with is this subtle yaw oscillation in long high speed turns. Probably it's bump steer associated with the twist beam geometry, but I can't figure out why it would oscillate....

I took a 400mile trip this weekend and had them set at 1/5. When I stopped at my destination, the fronts looked lower than when I had it at 5/5. I will measure later.
