Anyone add a hood scoop?

Looking at the stock intake, and underside of the hood, seems like it could be done. Looks like a pattern already in the hood/insulation. But how effective would it be? I'm not going to do it, just wondering if anyone has.

All you'll end up with is a hole on your hood.

CAI > that idea

A lot of scoops today are not functional. Only holes would be to secure it and could be easily fixed if decided to get rid of it. IMO, if you are going for functional, I agree a CAI would be best. However, I think that if you have forced induction, there may be a benifit to having a scoop in order to reduce engine compartment temperatures.

I would make it functional. Cut the top off the stock intake, fab up a surround too seal it to the hood. CRAM (Cold Ram Air Man)

Better yet, drive around with no hood and no intake. Imagine the amount of air flow

Same general design is available for 4th gens I believe. I know someone near me that has that same hood design on his 4th. It's the one on the left you can see how the design looks.

I'm going to bet that it's not functional, but I've never seen one in person so truthfully I don't know.

cut a hole in your hood and turn your cold air upside down so it runs outside of your hole you cut. that would be a true ram air. **** a scoop when you can have a hole

If you've seen the new GT-R, That's what I'm talking about!!! It has two, but on the max it would be one and a bit forward over top the intake snorkel.

/\/\/\ like stated above but also hood scoops are only functional when your FI it helps get rid of the heat headers put out alot faster, but any other reason for a hood scoop is a ricer.

Kinda funny, the hood is the only thing that looks good on that poor car.

That scoop looks pretty good. Looks like he's missing the side part of his bumper lights though.

the reason hood scoops are functional on an evo, sti and gt-r is because they are TURBO cars. the scoops are used to get cold air over the intercooler.

the only gains you would see from a hood scoop properly designed to feed air to/near your intake would be from having a colder charge of air fed into the engine. this can already be achieved cheaper and safer by using a true CAI that goes into your fender wall.

if you like the look of it, to each his own. after all, it is your car. but don't expect to gain anything powerwise.
except that on a gtr and evo they're front mount only the sti is top mount which is what i was considering for when i turbo my car..

i was thinking about cutting a hole in my hood for the air filter to stick out with a scoop over it with the opening facing forward. Then I got to thinking, what about water? in florida it rains ALOT. i'm thinking about having the scoop opening face the rear of the car that way water does not go directly into the filter. the edys of cold air would still hit the filter so it would be better than none at all and i wouldn't have to worry about water. it might look a little odd with a big bump on the hood looking at it from the front though lol

Please read this thread and use some sense. We all said it's not really worth it, on top of that the stock intake system is very well buit, the smartest thing for you to do is buy a Place Racing Cold Air Intake or a K&N Drop in filter.

Plus, if you do have the money or abilities to build a turbo system for the vq30, you'd know or learn that noone has run a top-mount in a maxima, I'm sure it's less efficient then a front-mount and it also won't fit between the intake manifold and hood unless you run a huge bulge. So when you're installing your turbo kit, buy a FMIC and if you want that stealth appeal spray paint it black. Although it seems that you don't want that since you are willing to cut holes in your hood to add hood scoops.
