repair the bose system on 89 maxima, bypass the amps
repair the bose system on 89 maxima, bypass the amps
After I bought the car, the bose system did not work. I changed a aftermarket HU, but there was only rear-left speaker available. After some days, rear-right speaker began work but with much noise. I checked the wires many times, but there was no change. I removed the rear amps and speakers, found rear-right amp broke. It is hard to find a replacement under my budget, hence I decided to bypass the amps. In result, the speakers work well and I find the bose speakers are really good than any aftermarket speaker. I think most problems of aged bose system are dued to the amps, just bypass it, except you want to buy another aftermarket amp. Here is the step how to remove the amp and bypass it.
I have pictures also, but I don't know how to paste them. If you need, please mail me:jiberlong@yahoo.com. All instructions are free.
1.Disconnect the wire to the amp which is four wires wraped in black plastic. Then pull the socket pluged on the side of the amp box away from the amp box. You can use a long nose pliers to clamp the socket's inner side to the box to pull it away.
2.unscew the four bolts of speaker and three screws of the amp box cover. Notice there are some black glue on the bolts, so you have to exert strength to unscrew. And, in case the speaker fall down after unscrewed, you can use a tape to fasten it before unscrewing.
3. After unscrewing the amp box cover, you have to unsrew two bolts fastening the amp board.
4. Cut the wires from the amp board, and reconnect the audio +/— wires to the speaker +/- wires with soldering. Then, insulating the power wire and ground wire to the amp.
5. Using insulator tape wrap all the connecting points and install the speaker.
You can make it to save hundreds of bulks since there are some repairation service quoted at least 120 bulks on internet.
I just know how to paste pics, here are them.

I have a 93 maxima that I bought without any head unit it it. Whoever owned the car completely rewired it, and all I can see are four sets of regular home speaker wires that go to the four bose speakers. I used the battery contacts and an old radio to test all four speakers, so I guess I can deal with that. But here is my question: how can I find wires to connect the auxilliary and battery and ground to my head unit, when the wiring is messed up so badly? Anybody got any advice? Should I use the cigarette lighter contacts? Any help will be appreciated
here's a twist for ya.
my factory bose only the pass. side worked.
the driver rear speaker was literally ripped and the cone overheated.
the driver front well nothing.
i started to replace the radio with a aftermarket h/u
and 1/2 of the wire was from 89-91 while the other half were from 92-94.
and there was a few and two ground wires.
they totally screwed up the wiring to the point where the air bag light was flashing.
i figured it out and all of em worked.
the air bag works the right way.
and i'm not for sure but they took a bose subwoofer from a gm vehicle and fitted in the trunk area.
chipsheryl:
are the oem harness cut off?
if so then take a dvom and with the key off you can find the constant 12v with the dvom.
then with the key on acc. take the dvom again and fond the acc. 12v.
as for gound the chassis where the radio mounts is a pretty good spot.
keep us posted
