Cutting Bumpstop on 5.5 with H&R's

Ok so I searched and found both answers. I have the Truax SFC, 13" BBK and H&R with adjustable illuminas. I didn't do anything with the bumpstops yet. I have new dust boots for the front and am trying to figure if I should cut the bumpstops, how much and exactly how since they are part of the boots. I currently have the shocks settings on 2 and will be moving to 3 since everything loosened up a little and as everybody has said the front end is soft and bottoms out. Should I set it to 3 and cut one segment out for get another inch of travel or whats the recommended action here?

Typical rule of thumb is about 1/3 of the stiff portion of the bumpstop.

how should that be done with the bumpstop being part of the dust boot?

1/3 From the portion that is firm rubber rather than the cover is what is cut. The boot is left alone.

Unless you know him personally and are curious, plenty of people on the forums have done this with fine results.

This is an old thread but I'm adding my $0.02.

With H&R springs, on quite a few cars I've lowered, I've never cut the bumpstops.
Haven't heard from any of them that they bottom out, and we're in NJ with crappy roads.

Probably because they didn't notice. Noobs generally don't notice bottoming out until they do something to remedy it and their car rides 10x better.

I rode in the cars too, felt nothing, and a few of them are definitely not noobs.

I'd actually just like to see these guys who come asking for advice, actually take the time to post-up the results, and their impressions.
It helps EVERYONE.

What are you talking about? I have used several different methods on four different spring and strut combos let alone building my coilovers. That's my impression, 1/3 of the bumpstop unless you are on some suspension that is lower and softer than anything ever mentioned on this site.

Dude....I was talking about Brusk asking for advice, and then not posting-up his results.
My bumps are trimmed as well -- I'm with ya man! CHIIILLLLLL~!

I was more interested in hearing about why his H&R's were bottoming?! Most guys don't have this issue with that setup. I'm thinking of going to the H&R's vs. my progress illumina setup -- the progress springs bottom CONSTANTLY!!!

Because he didn't cut the MF'n bump stops dude! lol

Did you read the first post? If you have had your suspension apart you can already see the limited amount of travel with lowering springs. When I had S-Techs I took more like 1/2 off and reinforced them with a zip tie to resist compression. I think I hit them ONE time when I got a metal cover on the road around 30mph that I didn't see.

Properly trimmed, I think he will be fine. I had a buddy that refused to trim his on Eibachs and on his firmer drop (than the S-tech I was on at the time) he hit his non-stop.

Just for reference:
I just swapped-out my Progress & Illuminas for HR's and OEM struts.
Dustboots are OEM, but the bumps ARE cut by half.
Everything seems JUST FINE.
No bottoming whatsoever even on the biggest potholes I can find, on BAD Iowa roads recently mangled by over 45" of snow and BIG snowplows!

Hence: Trimming Bumps with H&R's = no ill effects.
