Maxima Manual Tranny Owners!!!1

Hey all, I just want to get a view of how your trannys go from second to first.

I can't remember from when I first got the car if it would grind the gears going from second to first at anythign over 1000 RPM. But after a clutch change it grinds from second to first even at below 1000 RPM, i have to be at almost a stop for it to go into first gear without the grind sound. Its a 1999 Max GXE with the 5 Speed manual in it.

So my question to you guys is.

Does this seem normal to you and does your manual tranny from the 4th and 5th gens do this also?

IT just doesn't seem right to me, i have had other manuals that i can be at any speed and put it into first. But as soon as i start letting off the clutch it starts slowing down fast and revs hard.

Does this mean i am out of adjustment somewhere? Clutch pedal adjustment? Let me know what you guys think. I will also be contacting a Nissan dealership in town to see what they think. Thanks guys.

Mine does the same also (especially from 1st to 2nd); I too would like to know if that is normal or can it be eliminated.

Well mine is fine on the upshifts, its only on the downshift when the engine is still reved a little that it grinds. Just trying to figure out if this means that I am out of adjustment or if this means i might have to replace some synchros.

According to the dealership that I went to and a (transmission shop as well) Our cars are perfectly fine. Whether the 4th gen Maxima is an auto or a manual, it isn't the most smooth shifting car. Some Hondas are the same way.

Yeah, it pulls hard and has a little slip in 5th gear, but that might be from me not machining the flywheel when i had a clutch burn up on one side. But i kinda figured it was ok, but it just bothers me. I remember my old 1980 powerwagon being able to be put in first gear from 4th, but if i let off the clutch it would hop the wheels and slow down quick.

I double-clutch rev-match downshift for every gear. 1st gear takes more blip though. Otherwise, yeah, it's hard to get into 1st. Double-Clutching makes for faster 2->1 though, as opposed to pushing and holding the clutch pedal down. maybe dgeesman can shine some light.
