What the best stuff to use when cleaning out the VQ30?

What have you guys used to get all the sh*t out of your engine. My max is a 95 with 127000k, and the previous owner was abusive. So I was wondering what I could do to clean the inside of the engine.

There was a post on here that some org memeber said he used this stuff then the car blew black smoke and then it ran like new. Does anyone know what that was?

Some people would seafoam it, but really nothing is necessary at all. Just fresh fluids all around and clean filters.

You can't undo damage. But you can create more using those funky products.

Auto-rx in the crankcase or nothing.

W/e you do please do not put seafoam or any other solvent into your crankcase.

i dont trust that stuff.. reason being is because its gonna clean off all the crap that is keeping your seals from not leaking....

just use clean fliters and new fluid and dont worry about it.....

Don't trust what exactly? Have you read about Auto-rx in particular?

yea i have and decided not to use it... i mean just because if it cleans everything... its gonna clean off th stuff that keeps the gaskets and seals together.. besides people make 300k miles on these cars using 99c oil from walmart and have no problems..... thats all im trying to say...

I don't know if I agree with the assumption that gunk is what keeps gaskets and seals together and working properly. Where'd you read this?

And I suppose the definition of "have no problems" varies alot from person to person. Remember he did mention that the motor had been abused so it isn't preventative maintenance he's after.

Why are you all against Seafoam.. i use it on all my cars at least once if they are over 100k.. as long as you follow the directions and take your time.. the only thing i caution is if your o2 sensors are the origional ones/or very old, dont as it may cause then to fail.

Is there 100% proof that it is bad for our cars? or is it all Opinions based on some few bad experiances? if there is 100% proof that it is bad then i will retract my recomondation. if not the i recomend it.. Only reason i use it is i have seen before and afters when friends have used it on there cars. after that i have used it on all my cars at least once after 100k miles

Based on incorrect assumptions...

Most products are snake oil, but auto-rx is the real deal. It is safe to use in the crankcase because it completely liquifies sludge without using solvents that break the oil down. Please read up on it.

And no, sludge or "gunk" does not keep seals together or working properly.

What is seafoam supposed to do? It doesn't clean the pistons/combustion chamber/intake manifold, that's for sure. You shouldn't be putting solvents (like seafoam) into the oil because it breaks the oil down. Even when you drain the oil, some of the solvent remains. If you want to use it in the tank, there are better, more concentrated fuel system cleaners like BGK44 or in my experience, chevron fuel system cleaner. One thing cannot cannot claim to do all of these things without being mediocre on a least of couple of them.

And for the record, I was a seafoam fan a few years ago. But due to lack of real results and it killing an o2 sensor of mine I stay away.

Thanks guys for all your input, I just changed the oil to Mobile 1 supersyn 5w/30 and im going to use the Gumout all in one cleaner when I refill my gas tank. Down the road Ill probably use Auto-Rx it seems pretty legit.

Redline is #1 for a fuel treatment
for a plenum/tb etc cleaning, take it apart and do it right.
for crankcase, ARX or Castrol 0w30 (or another group iv oil)

and finally........
Seafoam cleans nothing and kills everything.

Why anybody would want to wash all that crap inside the intake/plenum into the cumbustion chamber is beyond me.

So what is the conclusion? I plan to put in Auto-RX coming next oil change interval.
