ADDCO Sway bar question

I installed this, and after about 2 months, the top end link tore away from the car (see pic). Did I install it wrong? How can I fix this? This ever happen to anyone?

Re: ADDCO Sway bar question

No it was installed correctly. This is a common problem with the Addco bar. The best you can do to fix it is take it to a body shop and ask if they can weld in a stronger piece of metal to replace the stock stamped steel piece. I had tehm replace it with a piece of angle iron and it hasn't moved since.

Have them do both when you take it in. The extra strain on the other will cause it to break also.

I went to a shop today. They asked for a picture. Could you get me one of what yours looks like now?

I don't have a picture. Have the guy look at the bracket. Tell him that the sway bar pulled out and you need him to fabricate a stronger bracket. He shouldn't have a problem understanding it once he looks at it. I wouldn't use the term "endlink" since that isn't the part that broke. An endlink is the long bolt at either end of the sway bar that attaches the end to the struts. I would call them sway bar supports or something, endlinks might be confusing him.

Shox.com sells the Addco bar. Nopi sells the ST bars.

My suspension tech bar ripped my endlinks apart in 4 places three different times.. so don't think you're immune. I know of several other guys that have had this problem with addco and ST bars.

This happens a lot

Both sides did it on mine. I had my mech cut off the old brackets and weld new steel (angle iron) peices in thier place. Tell them to turn the welder down or it'll burn a whole in the bottom of the car! Susp. Tech will do this too, break the brackets.

i dont understand, is this just happending in the rear ?
and what is ripping apart?
and why does it rip apart?
and last question, do the sway bars Reduce A LOT of body roll? or is it just minimal?

i would buy them if it will reduce all of most of the body roll of our cars.

what about the front sway bar?

Yes, the front bolts on differently and doesn't have this apoblem

and what is ripping apart?
The bracket that the sway bar supports are bolted to. Looks like a 2"x4" piece of metal with a 90 degree bend in it. One side is attached to the frame of the car, the other hangs down and has a hole drilled in it. The support for the sway bar bolts into this hole.

and why does it rip apart?
The piece of metal isn't very thick. Over time with the added stress of the thicker sway bar the bolt on the support will pull out of the hole.

and last question, do the sway bars Reduce A LOT of body roll? or is it just minimal?
YES!!!

good, you'll like it

what about the front sway bar?
I don't know, I don't have one.

Who has an aftermarket front and rear sway bar that has had the rear rip out? I had attributed mine riping out due to the fact I only upgraded the rear to a firmer bar? I wonder if the front is also upgraded if the problem still occures?

That has nothing to do with it. The front bar mounts differently and the rear mount is just too weak to deal with the forces exerted on it from the new (stiffer) bar.

Question:

How's the ride with the Addco compared to stock? My *cough*pu$$y*cough* friends already complain how stiff the stock suspension is.

A sway bar shouldn't change the ride as long as you are going in a straight line. In a corner there are more bumps transfered to the frame.

Yeah, I should've been more clear. Large bumps that affect both rear wheels at the same time (large waves in road, speedbumps) theoretically should behave the same, but any smaller bumps that hit one wheel and not the other (potholes, manhole covers, etc) will feel worse. I was just wondering how much worse. Thoughts from owners?
