Replacing Vacuum Hoses

I need to start replacing vacuum lines and hoses. Mine are getting ahrd and brittle. Anyone know what sizes and how many feet I need to buy?

Thanks

I forget the size. you'll need about 10-12ft.
when you get to the parts store, just pop the hood and pull a small hose off. take it in with you and buy hose that matches.

I think there are only 2 sizes you need...well, 3 if you replace the fuel hoses too (which need to be special high pressure fuel line, not regular vacuum hose!)

I was looking and there seemed to be like 5 different diameters under the hood.

for the small vacuum hoses that generally dry rot and whatnot, they're all like 3/16" or something.

You probably dont need to bother with the really large diameter ones, they arent as prone to cracking.

I figure while I am at it I'll do the rest for peace of mind. Cause almost all of them are hard.

no one's bothered because they're just not needed. replace the small stuff and you should be fine. the large stuff won't hurt, but 99% of the time it's just not needed.

Dude , I did ALL my vacuum hoses under the hood with a total of 3 ft and still had some left over. As for size I can probably see if the left over hose has the size on it. :calder

Remember the vacuum hose to the power brake booster in SUPPOSED to be hard (so it won't collapse). Unless it's cracked, leave it alone. Remember to replace one hose at a time or you'll never remember where they all go.

I take lots of pictures with my digi cam when working on stuff like that, then when it is time to put it all back together, I load the pictures into the laptop, and have my wife cycle through them for me so I can see where to put the stuff.

I already had the laptop, and the wife, though perhaps I should trade her in for one of those remote digital picture frames. The remote would be a heck of a mess if I had to touch it while working on the car though, and at least the wife can be thrown in the shower to get her clean, can't do that with a remote.

I just replaced most of the smallest size vacuum hose in my 1990 Maxima. The OEM hose has an interior diameter of 4 mm. 5/32 inch ID is the closest non-metric equivalent.
