Finally get rid of hard to starting problem.

Hi.
I had have suffered from the hard to starting problem. The car was dead completely on the last staturday, so it was tow to repair shop in which the car has repaired 6 months ago. This is the repair description.

***Labor***
CRANK NO START. -------------------- $259.00
FOUND NO SPARK. SPARK PLUGS ARE GAS FOULED COMPRESSION IS LOW. REPLACED SPARK PLUGS CLEANED CYLINDERS OF FUEL ADD OIL TO BRING COMPRESSION BAKC. PIN POINT TESTING FOUND CRANK SENSOR AT THE TRANSMISSION WAS BAD, REPLACED CARNK SENSOR AND VEHICLE STARTED.

CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR - Remove&Replace ..............$37.00

***Parts***
CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR ..................... $131.56
SPARK PLUG ................................................ $53.76
SHOP SUPPLIES ........................................... $ 6.00


GRAND TOTAL ,............................................. $500.80.

I'm still don't know what kinds of oil did the mechanic put in the engine to get back compression on the labor description?

You mean to tell us you have not changed the oil in half a year and now are wondering what oil that mechanic used ?

at least this repair fixed you problem, its not a bad thing to over pay if you cannot fix the problem yourself, its always better than monthly car payments of that same amount.

if your rings are worn down as soon as all that oil burns off your compression will be bad again. It'll help for a little while but not much. Also it may screw up your catalytic convertor if they put to much in.
If the rings are gone, does the engine has worth to be keeping? or How do I know the rings are bad or not? My VQ30 is about 131k miles so far. I'v seen many VQ30 over 200k without problem related to engine. What do you think about that?

In this case since you did not know what the failing parts where, I can't fault you for spending $500. However if you knew the problem part and just didn't have the tools or space to make the repair I would say you got raped. Even if you dont do the repairs yourself you should always buy the parts yourself and take them with you to the repair facility. This will save you $$$ in overcharges for parts. Guys take it easy on him he may not be handy with a wrench, rather be safe then sorry. For example, you dont want to get half way through a repair only to find our you can't complete it! Almost at that point this weekend with my wifes freakin BMW, I hate German engineering!!!!
