Car Hit in Parking Lot

I should've known better than to park close to the mall entrance during this time of year.

Because this is what happens when you do:

So i think im going to invest in some bumper guards. Anyone have any suggestions? Or any opinions on the the damage and if its repairable?

If your deductible is low, go thru insurance. It would be considered no fault. You could go out of pocket and get it repaired, few hundred dollars. Or you could just live with it.

I agree, most will buff out with a high speed. But still some scratches will be there. Do that for now, then in spring, bring to a paint shop, approx a $200 fix. But good luck with the paint match. The pearl cars (Pebble Beige, Sterling silver, Arctic White) repair paint usually don't match about 95% of the time.

I would be FURIOUS too! I feel your pain, before I got my beater my Max would get tapped in the school parking garage about once a month. Such a great present to come out to. Most people don't care, nor pay attention. Although what do you expect, the have no respect for themselves let alone their cars.

I feel your pain too man. Some scumbag in a yellow (I know because the color's imbeded in my door) hit my rear passenger door and drove off in a Sears parking lot. I'm thinking in was a Sentra SE-R or a VW Beetle.

guess you're just gonna have to eat this one. the majority of these go unreported and even more unsolved. maybe now you'll park further way.

A few months ago, I came to my car and I saw a huge expedition in front of it, and the spot was impossible for a truck that size. Lo and behold, his tow connector thing scraped the top flat part of my bumper 2-3 times. I got his license plate and took pictures. My father was in the hospital at the time so I didn't have the time or energy to go after him. Realistically though, I would have a chance right?

hate this kind of stuff. I mean how hard is it to park a f*****g car?? People that do that kinds of stuff shouldnt even own a car, much less have a license. About 3 months ago, within 2 weeks apart, my car was hit twice at walmart. I hate walmart. I usually try to park in between nice cars figuring those people might give a s**t about their rides, but guess not huh!!

If you think that's bad my old 97 got hit in the driver side rear quater panel and I got nothing. Hit and run too.

I park my 99 in my apt complex in a parking area where nobody else parks and double park it also.

Not exactly. Sometimes people who drive nice cars (or in nice cars) are even more reckless.

Yes, WalMart's parking lot is dangerous. There are a lot of UM (Un-insured Motorist), II (Illegal Immigrants) and RD (Reckless Drivers).

Yes, lost a corner light last week. I have a shopping/school car to take all that punishment. The I30 got a few nicks here and there but nothing major.

brush guards would help. i think that it would be cheaper and look better if you just get it re-painted.

I have 3 answers to the parking lot hit/run dilemma...

1) I ALWAYS park far away from everyone else, and/or at the and of the row where I can park out of the range of the adjacent car's door wing.

2) "Door Defenders" - magnetic bumpers than can be placed on the doors to provide temporary protection from door dings and loose shopping carts.

3) I have a dashcam that is triggered by vibration. If my car is hit then the dashcam will fire up and record video facing forward, and backwards or to the side.

My wife's car was hit in a parking lot at work - took the license plate & holder off the front bumper (she found it 50' away). Police report was made, of course nothing came of it. Bumper was fine, just drove around with no plate until I got pulled over for no plate - even then I just showed them the smashed plate and offered the police report number 0 he didn't care that much)

Just recently I saw a lady at work hit the gas instead of the brakes as she was pulling into a parking space - hitting the car in front of her. She got out and looked, and went to get back in her car when she saw me staring at her, arms crossed, giving her the "Don't even think about just driving away" look. She waved at me, pulled out piece of paper and started writing, and stuck it under the widshield wiper. I walked into the building, but came back out again 5 mins later and she was gone, her car was gone, and the 'note' was gone too. I had the last laugh, though. I left a note that said; "You car was struck by a red neon with license plate XXX999."

I consider my 1996 SE a beater I guess. I look forward to parking close to store entrances where lazy people leave thier shopping cart next to the space, or even in the space off to the side. I don't have to worry.

My SE has 235000 miles, runs great but eats oil, the left rear window doesn't work any longer I used to hold it up with duck tape, but in the summer I got a duck tape streak as the window rolled down again. So as you can see it is not in great visual shape.

But since my BMW needs a $500 alternator (water cooled), I have been using the old reliable SE, until I fix the beemer. There is a sort of freedom in not having to worry about your car, especially here in Southern California.

If I park over 2 spaces (very rare - usually I just park 10 spaces away from everyone else) then I make sure I do that at the far end of the lot. We had a lady once that parked her 'new' 95 Intrepid across 2 spaces right at the door. Our lot was so small that the extra space she used meant the last person to arrive had to park in the remote lot abo.

After 3 days of putting notes on her car someone finally complained to the building owner - who posted a copy of the parking lot rules with "5) All cars should be parked in a marked space - one space per vehicle." Then she finally got it.

Paint thinner or nail polish remover and a paper towel, most of it will be gone.
