DTC P0443 Evap Purge Vol. Ctrl. Sol.
DTC P0443 Evap Purge Vol. Ctrl. Sol.
I've been battling this code for months now and it's getting closer to smog time.
I don't know if it's the volume control solenoid(stepper) or a busted cannister. Can anyone help?
I've checked everything except the purge volume control solenoid. The 4 windings ohm out OK at 30 ohms but not knowing how to drive the stepper motor I can't test if it's actually moving.
The purge control solenoid valve test OK. The purge cut valve is OK. The cannister vent control valve is OK (I actually replaced this a couple year back but didn't add the water trap - oops?)
I replaced all the rubber hoses in case they had cracked.
I just tested the pressure sensor and got the 3.3V specified with the ignition on/engine off. I also noticed that if I plugged up the cannister vent hole, I would get a vacuum in the evap system when I started the car (sensor dropped to 2.9V) and when I disconnected the purge line from the cut valve in the engine compartment going back to the cannister, the line from the cut valve (intake manifold) was gently sucking. This was when the car was cold. After it warmed up there was no more suck from the cut valve.
With the ignition off, there is no resistance to air flow in either direction on the purge line from the cannister in the engine compartment.

Thanks Buck!
Is there a way to see if the stepper is working? Like, it'll be closed when cold and only open when warm above 2000rpm?
Bet it's a $300 special order from stealer.
I'll double check the vacuum/cut valve.
