Factory alarm goes off by itself.
Factory alarm goes off by itself.
Yesterday, I parked my car on the driveway, turned my ignition off, and opened the door. The alarm went off for no apparent reason. I than backed out of the driveway, drove around the block and parked again, same thing happened. I than parked my car noise in, due to the incline to see if that would make a difference and it did for a while...until this morning when the car went off by itself. It even does this after I press the open function on the oem remote transmittor. When I open the door, the alarm goes off. If I tap slightly on the car the alarm can also go off. If the wind blows, the alarm goes off. For now I took the alarm fuse out from under the hood and still have my keyless entry functionality. What do I need to fix this problem? I would still like to have a functional alarm and not have it go off at night waking up the neighbors or going off at a mall and draining the battery or even having it towed. The car is a 99 SE, all stock, with all factory options except leather.
Thanks
Thanks

Hey Spartuss:
If my old thread is still working you can do a search. Just reference factory alarm and it should come up. If it has been raining like it is here in Chicago, it is probably your trunk switch getting wet from water sneaking in your trunk. If you have a factory spoiler like me, then it is probably coming in through the mounting holes. There is a trunk switch located right near the lock cylinder you can unplug and still use your factory alarm, but your trunk will not be protected should someone decide to pry it open.
Start there. I had the exact same problem and had to remove the entire spoiler and reattach it with new clips and grommets. Then, I made sure I put extra RTV sealant around the mounting studs so no more water could get in. so far, everything has been fine and no more false alarms during a rainstorm at 3 a.m.
Good luck with that and hope that solves your problem. PM me with the results.
Take care,
Ted

I dont mean to steal this thread. but i have the same thing and my driver door light stays on even wen all doors are closed. So i just took out the bulb. Now that u said that a door sensor may be bad. How would u go abt changing that.
Pull it out and install a new one. Also if your door light is staying on and the switch is bad, than your dome light should stay on as well and your car won't lock if you have keyless entry. Now stop high jacking this thread!
