WP - $86.10 @ Courtesy, $49.98 @ AA. Dave B should be cheaper than either, I'd hope.

Timing chain tensioner...I don't believe you can purchase the old style any more, you'll have to get the new tensioner and guide, which requires removal of the TC to install.

WP == Water pump.
AA == Advance Auto.

You don't have to remove the timing chain, just the timing cover.

2007 FAST shows guide PN to be 13091-2Y001, and tensioner to be 13070-31U02. I'd check with Dave B for all prices, and info on the tensioner.

Oh ok, thats not too bad then. I would just have to remove a bit more stuff like the crank pulley, etc on that side of the engine.

How can I locate Dave B? The search function on this forum isn't very good. I need to order these parts ASAP as my water pump is leaking.

Thx

Yeah, I could, but if I'm going to go thru all the work of replacing the water pump and having the tensioner off, I would prefer to go with new parts for the piece of mind.

Ok, Dave B said as long as the tensioner isn't making noise, he would just leave it. Cause he said removing the timing cover to replace the updated guide is alot of work. So I'm just going to reuse the tensioner.

You think this is ok?

But otherwise, the waterpump has been ordered! Thx again

How long?

Hey guys I have a question for you. How long will this take a person with minimum car savvy experience? Or is this something that should be done at a shop? I think I am in the same boat!!

If the tensioner does not make noise, you don't need to replace it. The only wear item in the tensioner is the o-ring. When I replaced my tensioner at 163KM, the old tensioner o-ring was in very good condition. The start-up noise problem I had was not due to the old tensioner. The new tensioner had the noise, too. Only after I put in the tensioner gasket, then the noise went away.

I installed the tensioner gasket in mine when I did the water pump last month. Never made chain rattle before, but now it does a little bit. Whatever.

About 6 hours, lol.

I've done 6 of them so far. I charge about $220 to do em and it takes me 2 hours. To change the actual pump takes about 15-20 minutes. taking everything out the way and putting it back takes up most of the time.

FYI, if it aint broke don't fix it. The tensioner, leave it alone, even after everything is put back, on a 4th gen max the timing chain tensioner can be easily changed out in about 20-30 minutes. So if it craps out, you can do it when the time comes.
