If one was to go with the Catman or the Warpspeed or any other aftermarket Y pipe with out the stock pre-cats, how would this effect emissions testing? Would it create any problems?

 

I have a stainless steel Budget y-pipe which has removed a pre-cat. I have passed emissions testing twice since I got it. Take the car out on the highway first and give it a good run. Go to emissions testing when there isn't a lengthy lineup forcing you to leave the engine idling for several minutes.

Just don't drive for 5 minutes and head straight to the test station.

the rest are not ****. get budget or warpseed for about half the price and youll be good.

Cattman will give you the best quality product, but you will pay out the @$$ for it.

Warpspeed, etc... are almost just as good, but a hell of a lot cheaper.

I personally own a Custommaxima Y-pipe -> Warpspeed Cat -> Greddy SP2 and I passed emissions. But just BARELY, my CO reading was 1 point below the limit.

 

Still a little worried about the whole emissions thing. I have to replace it, leaking where a muffler shop tried to replace the flex (which was leaking), tried to fix, no go.

With the original cat still in place, 192K, and removing the precats, what do you think about the emissions? Should I put a new cat in it now? or just replace the Y pipe and leave it? (New exhaust from cat back - stock stuff.)

 

replace the y. call it a day. make sure your cat is nice nad hot before testing (and stays hot right before testing).

 

replace the y-pipe and cat, otherwise its a pain in the *** for the shop. they can take it off in 1 peice instead of screwin around tryin to save your rusty old cat. i got the warpspeed with cat for 285.00 shipped and i probably saved $$$$ on labor and an extra trip to the shop just doin the cat with the y in 1 shot.

 

The only thing the precats in the y pipe do is reduce the emissions for cold engines....If you properly warm up you car to normal operating temp, you will pass emmisions just fine.

What did the shop charge to install it? I could do it myself, but I really don't want to lay on my back under the car all weekend!

 

i was told because i just got 1 too that it's about 2 hours if that to install so i'm guessin with tax around 170.00 for install.

 

do not pay over $100 to install the y pipe. i paid $40...

 

i want a y pipe but can someone give me a good website to look around them?

You are lookin at a 100 hp easy....

Do a search and you'll see the incredible gains...

 

it adds 15 hp up top, pretty much the best bang for your buck. It makes it nice and throaty , not too loud. Once you get the larger B pipe it gets real loud, unless you like it LOUD!!!

 

And by 100 HP he means 15-20

 

You will be looking at on average a 12-15 WHP gain overall, with gains of up to 30 WHP from 6000-6200 RPMs over stock...

The added HP is a bonus to me! I'll just be happy to not get fumigated when I drive it! Cheaper than a stock replacement to boot!
