Weird buzzing/pulsing when braking at low speeds

I did a search and really didn't find anything that matched what my car is doing.

This started a few days ago, feels like ABS is pulsing on some low speed stops and then I hear a buzzing noise like a motor (sort of like power seats) for a few seconds, sometimes even after I have come to a complete stop. Braking power otherwise seems normal, brake fluid level looks good, pads appear to have more than enough meat on them. After it makes the noise and I have come to a complete stop, when I let off the brake, the automatic shifter (or something directly under it) clicks one time. The ABS light has not come on. This is not an ice/wet pavement issue. This is happening on dry surfaces under light braking that normally wouldn't activate the ABS system. Otherwise, my car runs normally. No other unusual noises, no pulling to one side, anything like that.

EDIT: The noise does not start immediately when I brake, but when I am almost completely stopped (like 5 mph and less).

I'm going to pull the ABS fuse in the morning and see if that makes a difference. Any other suggestions?

The click noise coming from the shifter is normal. There was a TSB for it on the Altima where you could get some bigger rubber bushings to curb the noise.

I'll let someone else chime in on the ABS though as I have not experienced that on my 2002.

It's low speed ABS cycling of one or more of the brakes. Because you don't have any ABS light on, the FIRST thing to do is to remove (one bolt each) the wheel speed sensors and clean the "swarf" off the business end, and reinstall them. I think you'll find a lot of "fuzz" on the sensors. They are very magnetic and depending somewhat on the pads that you've been using they can attract a lot pad and rotor swarf, which affects the sensors ability to sense the teeth on the sensor ring/rotor. Make sure the rotor teeth are clean as well. I would start with both fronts first. If you still have this issue after that, then do the rears.

When I back off of my parents steep hill of a drive way mine makes this sound. It did this in my other vehicles equiped with abs.

I'll clean the sensors tomorrow. I pulled the ABS motor fuse and my car is nice and quiet again...but the ABS light is on and obviously, no ABS function. No ice expected here, so I ought to be okay until I clean the sensors and put the fuse back in.

I cleaned the front sensors, the passenger side one had a lot of fuzz on it. I didn't get the rotor teeth though, my floor jack wasn't raising my car up enough to put on jack stands and I'm not putting my head under my car without them. Anyway, both front sensors are clean and I put the ABS motor fuse back in...still making noise. I'll have to add oil to my floor jack and get my car up high enough for the jack stands so I can clean the rotor teeth, plus I'll get the ones in back too. Hopefully that fixes it.

I appreciate the help.

Seems to be a common problem....

I cleaned all sensors and the sensor rings front and rear and I am still getting the ABS motor noise. A few times while driving, it sounded like the right front tire was going over a rumble strip, so I am guessing that is where the problem lies, especially since that sensor was the one that was caked in crap. Still no ABS codes. I'll have to get under the car and see if I can see anything wrong with the sensor ring. I suppose the next step is to replace the ABS sensor?

I've pulled the fuse for now.
