Anybody tried heated mirrors?

Those mirrors I see on Ebay; heated power mirrors such as:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MIRRO...QQcmdZViewItem

Just curious because I was driving the other night and the side mirrors were wet/foggy the whole time.

Some SE's have the wires already built in for the heated mirrors and seats... And most GLEs

Oh.. boo my GXE doesn't have them.. I'll purchase them sometime soon. I thought it was some Ebay "you get what you pay for" crap but I guess not. Thanks.

don't buy from this seller, i had a hard time returning a part i got from them and those mirrors are crap. i know some 1 with a 96 that said they looked gimp and did'nt fit right. just thought i let you know, get em used on e-bay or a junkyard. you'd be better off.

If you have the winter package then your Maxima will have the heated mirrors.

heated mirrors have an extra connector that connect to part of the harness inside the door. If your Car doesnt have heated seats it wont have that connector inside the door. You could get clever with wiring something up, but minus that its not as easy as just getting a heated mirror and installing it.

Sorry for hijacking your thread, but I just want to know how to turn the heated mirrors on. I have a 97 SE with heated seats. I've had it for about 6 years, so I feel kinda stupid asking this haha.

its automatic. if its that cold outside, after you first start your car up and are driving, look at the mirror you'll probably see a rectangle that is clear (or more melted than the rest) you know then its working.

or you should be able to touch it and feel its warm. ( i think it kicks in on cold days, or there is a way for it to know its cold enough outside to heat the mirrors)

On my 96 Maxima, I press the rear defroster in order to activate the heated mirrors.

interesting on my 96, the heated mirrors activate on their own, going to double check this on the next cold day.

i saw you get the pwoer-folding heater mirrors since you are in the mood to upgrade. other than that, heated mirrors are simple to wire even if you have no harness. tap into your rear defroster for the remote lead to a relay.

ps: heated mirrors are usually accompanied by heated seats.

Cool, thanks. I like that idea. I'll probably do that if I dont find anything behind the door (when I actually do it)

I would stick to buying an OEM mirror I noticed that when I bought a cheap unit the mirror would shake going over bumps on the road and when I had the music up loud. It's no where near as bad with the OEM one I replaced it with but it still does it a little bit. The heated part works fine I just found it annoying.

You need 15 posts first. You could also donate first to avoid the post count requirement I think.

the power-folding heated mirrors i was referring to are OEM. for US heated mirrors, you can prob get them for $50 each. less if the color shell is cracked (you would be putting your shells on it anyhow).

I haven't read the owner's manual in a while but I do believe it addresses the heated mirrors. I think they come on with the defog button. They may come on just whenever you have the heat on but I think it's only with the defog.

I sold a set of black 4th gen heated OEM mirrors for $100 shipped iirc. You can tell the difference because the heated usually have two wires coming off the mirror, and the non heated ones usually only have one.

But here is my question, were all drivers side mirrors, regardless of what package you had, heated? Because a GXE that I just parted out had 2 wires coming from the drivers side mirror and only one coming from the pass. side mirror. P.S. this car had 0 options.

if there is no frost or anything you wont see the mirrors heating up. Or maybe they were removed at some point. Touch them after a few min of being on and see if they are warm (in the middle)

question on the heated mirrors, kinda unrelated, but is it possible/cost effective to replace the element in the OE heated mirrors? my r/s is burnt out.

And yeah they are activated by the rear def. button stock.

You can check if you have a working heated mirror also by wiping it with a wet cloth an pressing the defrosted button, if it is working fine then the water will dry up and dissapear leaving a stain

thats what happens in the rain (i love using heated mirrors in the rain, cause it clears up the mirror and i can see)
