Who Here Has Taken A Front Seat Apart?
Long story short - my driver's side seatback is bent and I would like to swap it with a not-so-bent seatback from another 3rd Gen car seat I have sitting around. The bottom cushion comes off the frame no problem but I am having trouble figuring out how to disconnect the back cushion from the frame...Any help?
On the back side of the cushion there is a section that pops off. Then there are about 17-20 clips that you need to pry off. Pics in a ocuple minutes.
The only thing about those clips on the back of the seat is they will almost certainly break when you remove them. You'll have to sarcrifice another seat to get the clips out of. I usually cut through the front of it and remove the clips and fit them onto the back of the good panel.

Or just get a couple new ones.....
hog rings and hog ring pliers are cheap...cut the old ones and install new ones.
You can get them from a county supply shop because they are actual hog rings (put them on the nose of hogs to keep them from rooting). I got mine from the county co-op.

I didn't know that...they even have special pliers for them, eh? I'll have to check into this on Monday...
Yeah....i believe that. Just make sure you have a set of real good wire cutters with a nice grip...because you'll end up with blisters and sore hands otherwise. Also be sure to start your work in a clear area with a smooth floor, no carpet or anything like that, or you'll also end up with little pieces of metal stabbing you all the time and messing up the vacuum. I suppose that goes without saying though....so just forget i wrote it. I'm too lazy to backspace right now.

Alright, my seat mix-matching is done...Long story short, I started with 2 sets of front seats, swapped the bottom seat cushions (a 4-bolt job) from the power seat frame to the manual-adjusting frame, swapped the passenger-side seat back to the manual frame, and stripped both driver's side seat backs and installed the leather upholstery on the manual seat back.
The driver-side seat back was bent due to the high-speed rear-end collision it was in with a body in the seat and bent it, so I essentially changed out the frame.
Why power seats back to manual? Because the manual frames are at least 10 pounds lighter a piece, I have stock-interior colored trim for the manual seats to make the leather upholstery blend in better (as you can tell the leather color is tanish and my interior is grayish), and I don't like the excess play in the seat back due to it being controlled by a worm gear in the power seat setup.
Hope you all kind of follow my logic...Anyway, a pic:

P.S. Seats are back in the car.
