What do you think this max is worth...

1997 Maxima SE. White, automatic.
185k miles

-Power leather seats
-Power windows
-Power door locks
-Power sunroof
-Power mirrors
-Bose stereo
-Automatic climate control
-Garage door opener
-Alarm

Car has done about 7000 miles in the last 2 years so everything thats gotten fixed is still fairly new:
-Most suspension components
-Most exhaust components
-All brake components
-AC compressor
-Bose stereo head unit
-Transmission. New transmission has about 100k miles on it and has an LSD.
-All-season Kumho tires have 1000 miles on them, at the most.

SES light is on - knock sensor and evap canister.
Body is in good condition. Basically, aside from the SES the car is great.

KBB says ~$3200 for fair condition, ~$3700 for good (highest is excellent). Yes, I am aware that blue book values are not the bible, just posting those for reference.

Just testing waters... what do you think its worth?

You can really get a car like this for $2500? I've been considering this one but it sounds like it's priced way too high:

yea as those of us whove been in the car market over and over, adding stuff like new suspension, tires, exhaust, etc. doesnt do much to the asking price.

i think you should offer 28. flex to like 31 or 32 if needed.

personally i wouldnt pay bluebook on a car with that many miles.

or keep searching and look for something with less miles, even if it means sacrificing options.

No more than $2,700; $2,800 is max with that amount of mileage.

also, think about the fact that the average person in the market for a used car doesnt know about the reliability of maximas.
to them, 185k is a huge scare factor.

the amount of people that are even going to be LOOKING at this car is minimal. only the true nissan buffs or experienced car buyers will know that 185 isnt that bad for a max.

to you, who knows that these engines can hit 300 easily, with basic maintenance, the mileage is a bargaining chip. you assume the seller is embarassed about asking $XXXX for a 185k car and you can pretend to think its also too high.

I know the engine should be good, it's the transmission I'm concerned with. I think service records are key for a seller to get top dollar for a high mileage car.

just an FYI i looked at it, very nice but according to carfax it was in a very bad accedent. I asked seller and he admitted the whole front end was replaced headlights, bumper, fenders, hood ect. It was also a rental vehicle for a short time. Stay away for that price i know i did...

Well if the old tranny has 180k on it and ***** the bed then you go to a junkyard and find a new one ('new' in this case means 'another', not 'brand new')

You rock, thanks for checking that out. I haven't gotten close to buying anything yet to buy a carfax.

Now sell me your 95!

Theres an auto black on black 95 in greenbay if you take 41 to velp ave and keep going til you see a POS gas station on the left of the road its sitting in there. Clean title, carfaxed good. Has 200K though, auto, leather, bose, the works for a 95 and the asking price is $2400 i believe. Check it out and maybe go home with a car. Otherwise i was thinking about picking it up for a 2nd vehicle.

**sorry for using the thread as a pm lol**

i think in Wisconsin the prices on maximas are jacked up for whatever reason there resale here is very high. Infact i recently bought my 95 for almost the same price as my old 97 that was stock! Given it had, 5spd, all options and 160k i got it because it was everything that i wanted in my next max and we all know 95's are the fastest for w/e reason (less emission controls and lighter wieght lol and 15" wheels).

3-4 years ago i bought a 99se 140k for 8K, 3 years ago a 95 gxe 200k for 1500, 2 years ago a 97se 150k for 5500, and also 2 yrs ago a 98se 5200

i think around here anyway it REALLY depends on the cars shape itself obviously and the big factor being the transmission. All the manual cars get skyrocketed prices

Ahh, thanks kevlo

Here's a 98 GLE with 156,277 miles for $3575... no options though

and a 95 with 62k for ~$3300

97 for $9400?!?!?! I doubt that it has enough mods to justify that price...

These prices are all over the place basically... I guess there are people out there willing to pay $$$$$ for maximas, and others that are not, is what it comes down to.
