1998 SE Auto Sage Mist Green in Chicagoland

Hi There:

Well, I finally listed my Max on Autotrader.com. You can cut and paste the link below and it will give you all the info and photos. The vehicle is in exceptional condition which is why the asking price is what it is. I am willing to negotiate with a serious buyer who is at least willing to come and see the vehicle before extending a lower offer.

The car is located in Downers Grove, Illinois which is about 17 miles west of Chicago. You can PM me here or use the contact info on the Autotrader website.

Thanks and hope someone wants a rarer Sage Mist Green Max instead of all the black, beige, silver and dark green ones I see all the time. It's a beautiful color and you will definitely be one of the few in your area with one.

Take care,

Ted

Well, I have a potential buyer for my Max. I say "potential" because although he gave me a deposit last Saturday and is supposed to give me a cashiers check for the difference tomorrow, things happen during the 11th hour of a car sale. I am surprised it all happened within one week after listing my car.

I only had one member from this forum interested and actually drove it Saturday before the buyer. Said he wanted a car with leather seats and was looking at a 2001 on Sunday. This was only after he had driven my thoroughly detailed car behind a few trucks, on the wet highway and through just about every puddle on the street too. Oh, and I strangely never heard back from him again. Whatever.

I will confirm when the deal is done and the Max is gone for good. I will be splitting my online searching between this one and nicoclub.com for maintenance and troubleshooting for my Q45. It's been extremely helpful being a part of this community and I have learned a great deal.

I am still offering my KS replacement and the lower radiator core replacement as well while I still have my welder and can remember all the steps involved. I posted a thread in the Midwest section, but I don't know whether it is still on there or was deleted.

Any members in the Chicagoland and Western Suburban areas can contact me if they need either part replaced. I will give you any current pricing and estimated repair times.

I think we have all gotten our fair share of snow here. I believe they said it was unfortunately going to drop to zero this wknd. Perfect timing....

The Max is SOLD!! The buyer came through and I officially watched my baby drive away for the last time. The buyer lives about 40 mins away, but I highly doubt I will see it again since I don't usually travel to that area.

I was a little sad to see it go, but I really am enjoying my first Q45. Definitely larger with more luxury. But, I won't miss having to scoot my drivers seat up to accomodate rear seat passengers.

I truly appreciate all the relationships I have forged over the years on this forum and will check back from time to time to post an answer or suggestion to a problem.

In case nayone was interested, I sold the Max for $5,100.00 and I threw in a set of replacement OEM rebuilt axles that I did not get around to installing. So far, those riduculous CV "split boot kits" that I put on both axles this summer are still holding!! I installed them when both boots split within one week of each other and before any crap got in there. They weren't even clicking or making any noise.

In the future, I would definitely go with the full replacement boots if the axle bearings were still good or complete axle assemblies if they were on their way out. The splt boots are MESSSYY!!!

That said, if anyone needs the core replacement, please contact maxihari77SE96 for a reference on the job. Plus, I can send some photos I took during his job.

Best of luck to everyone and keep 'em on the road and running right!!

So long.

Ted

97SMG (Does SMG stand for Sage Mist Green???)

The book was listed about $5,500.00. I listed it for $5,300 hoping to get $5K to help pay down the Q45. Even though mine had some miles, I was confident in its overall condition and did not have to sell it quickly -- things just went in my favor this time. The last time I sold a car, it was as clean if not cleaner with less miles and it took me over four months and numerous showings!!

All I can say is it never in an accident, never repainted, only two minor dings, was ridiculously clean, in and out, under the hood and underneath the car (I re-undercoated the wheel wells, floor and trunk pans. Cleaned off, taped off and repainted the rear axle trailing bar and suspension components with quality paint. Painted all four calipers with a decent ceramic caliper paint kit. Black only!!! Don't do red or yellow!! Mini Buff-balled the OE rims and waxed them too. Touched up any minor chips with silver paint (even painted the silver wheel weights on the car that were chipped).

No Rust, no repaired panels. Buffed and paint touched up, also removed any tar, then waxed. Removed all traces of city stickers, etc. from the windshield, thoroughly cleaned the glass. Even lightly buffed the windshield to remove some wiper scratches. No tears or stains. No worn out spots even on the drivers arm rest or center console pad. Brand spanking new OEM Nissan factory burlwood dash kit with no scratches or faded spots. Factory radio still cranked with no hissing or blown speakers/amps. No loose or broken stereo buttons. Removed the front seats and shampooed underneath them. Cleaned the headliner and sunvisors thoroughly too. Had all the paperwork since the car was new including the original window sticker (which I actually put on the car). Gave him a complete maintenance history since the car had 41 miles on it. Pretty much brand new tires. Excellent brakes and front suspension parts (stab bush end links, tie rods, etc.) No clunks no rattles. Gave him two brank new rebuilt OE (not cheap crap) CV axles. And everything worked correctly from the factory. Even the filter was reoiled for him.

The car was basically bone stock except for replacing the center caps with caps from a 2004 Max, a K&N filter and a cool Mercedes Benz type flip out key blank (I just had to have one neat gadet). I know a lot of members enjoy modding their cars out to make them one of a kind and stand out. I have always been more subtle and want to keep it stock looking, but do a few hidden things to bump up the enjoyment of the ride and performance.

The issue a lot of buyers have with a slightly or heavily modified vehicle is that the seller obviously wants to get as much of the money back they spent on it while the buyer might not want a carbon fiber dash kit and matching glow pedal covers. That is why there are so many aftermarket items out there because everyone has a different opinion on what looks cool. If you keep a car stock, I know it can be boring to most members, but it definitely helps with the resale value if you are marketing the car outside the Forum. Most lay people who do not wrench their own cars will not appreciate the fact it took someone 50 hrs to fit and install a custom body kit so there are no gaps and then painted the car a candy apple red with painted pinstripes.

Like I said in my listing, with 138K on the odometer, you would be hard pressed to find a car that fully documented and detailed. When I say I spent 10 hrs detailing it, that doesn't include the countless hours keeping it clean over the years I owned it. I am car crazy and wished it could be clean all the time, but that is not reality. I was confident in my car because I know what car guys look for. Not too many people would clean the oil, grease and road grime from UNDERNEATH their cars. Most people would not remove the door panels and make sure all the window regulators and lock assemblies are greased up and working smoothly. And, most people do not go out to a paint shop to get a custom bottle of touch up paint like me.

Bottom line, I am not encouraging everyone to try and sell it for a huge profit. It worked out in my favor because our cars have great styling and performance and a relatively cheap price. And, because of members like yourselves, our 4th Gens are getting more well known as a desireable car to own and drive.

I will post from time to time and also check in to read what you guys are up to next. Have a good one. It's been fun. I'm sure a majority of the members of the Q45 Forum in Nicoclub.com are not as lively and adventurous as the members here.
