Hey guys, so for the year I have owned my car the alt. has always made that whining noise. And last friday it finally **** th bed. I put a new one in over the weekend, and now the car is a quiet as ever and as fast as ever. My throttle response is much more noiceable and I finally get that thrown back in the seat sensation upon accelleration. Has anyone else noticed a difference in performance after putting in a new alt. or am I just imagining things again?

 

why didn't replace it as soon as it started the whining noise?

 

Yes i had the same problem the car died on me but prior it made a whining noise plus smoke came out of it,thought it was the supercharger making that whining noise but it was the alternator replaced it my self performance improved but before,it was running sluggish.

 

yeah, I didnt replace it because it was still working.

 

lol wow when it starts whining that usually means its gonna die so why not just save yourself problems later and just replace it right away

 

OK I have the exact same whining noise. I went out after searching the org and bought another altenator and had it installed today and its making the same noise. Any suggestions?

 

is the whining noise you hear upon start up or just when the car is running?

 

When the car is running. It makes my car sound like its 50 years old or has a supercharger.

No I replaced my belts a few weeks earlier to get rid of that problem. I'm starting to think I should have just bought a brand new alternator. The one I got was remanufactured from advanced auto parts.

 

if it's still whining with your new alty, the noise could very well have been cming from your AC compressor. My splash guards are all trashed/blown off & i hit a nasty puddle (more like a mini pond in the road ) and the next day I had noise that sounded identical to alternator whine. I listened closely and traced it to the AC compressor. For now, I put in a shorter belt to bypass it and I will deal with it in the summer Car is quiet again!

If you determine you have to go that route, the belt I used was NAPA part #25-060355 The store had to special order it but it only took a day. The belt model was 6PK903 and 920mm long.

 

This must be it. The noise started when I took my splash guards off. I figured my belts were just messed up so I replaced them. Then when I the noise was still there I searched the org and found that it might be the alternator and had that replaced today. I'll go to NAPA and replace that belt. Hopefully it works. Is this a short term solution? If so what would a long term solution be? Thanks for belt info makes my life alot easier!

 

theres also this gel you can put on your belts that is supposed to stop squeaking. works for a couple of weeks/a month.

 

No prob man. You can run it like that as long as you want to. You'll be amazed at how quiet the engine runs w/ the compressor bypassed. The only downfall, obviously, is that summer + leather + no A/C will be brutal If you could get a good deal on a compressor in good condition form a partout later on, you can always drop that in, put back your old oem belt and recharge the system.

 

My 95 has had starting problems when i bought it. It would crank but wont turn over. I bought a new battery as a start to repair the problem as well as a tune-up. The day after i got my tune-up my car I made a few stops and it was fine. Until, i made one stop and was only gone for ten mins the car would not crank. The exterior/interior lights still worked when put on. I tried giving the battery a jump and seen a little bit of attempt to crank. Could this be an alternator problem? TIA

 

My alternator would sometimes make the same noise. I guess its obvious (ima newbie) that it is the alternator. no need to respond.
