Just got an email with a couple of his new products. He has a new high flow cat.

Metal Core Catalytic Converters are superior to traditional ceramic core converters in many ways:

- 100% Stainless Steel construction

- Metal Monolith is much more resistant to the effects of vibration than traditional ceramic bricks.

- Capable of withstanding higher operating temperatures.

- 300 cell per Sq. Inch catalyst flows at 578 CFM, up to 40% better than a typical ceramic core converter.

- Suitable for use on engines up to 5.0L


Is this worth it? Does anyone know the flow of the stock maxima cat? By the picture it is alot smaller than traditional size. Here is the flow numbers of the 350z cats.

03-06 OEM Cat: 145 CFM
07 OEM Cat: 180 CFM
07 name-brand HFC: 196 CFM
2.25" test pipe: 225 CFM
2.75" custom HFC: 306 CFM

I know the cattman replaces it but here in Tn we have testing and atleast would look good.

 

stock cats actually flow pretty well.

Unless you need to replace your cat, there are easier and cheaper ways to get power.

 

I was just curious. Usually when something new comes out there is a need or people want it. Ive heard about headers and the y pipe that replaces the cat but curious as the need now for a cat that flows that much I guess.

 

if you're a highly tuned NA or FI, then i'd consider getting either a highflow cat or testpipes if youre not worried about emissions. otherwise keep the stock catalytic converter and spend your money elsewhere.

 

Get a test pipe, and use your stock cat whenever you need to get tested.

 

 

or, you could not spit a whole bunch of crap into the atmosphere.. test pipes give you what, <10 hp? i personally don't feel it's worth it considering the pollution factor.. if you're dead set on doing the catalytic converter mod, i heard good things about the magnaflow cat... more power while still catching pollutants

The way my car builds boost makes it seem like a volcano. Does this mean I'm making up for the difference?

 

well i'm redoing my whole system from the ypipe back (warpspeed ypipe, magnaflow muffler, silverline tips) i figured to get a high flow cat w/ a mechanical o2 simulator (utilizing the spark plug fouler to set the o2 sensor back about an inch) and add a resonator and my system can be complete.

i want a little rumble while maintaining a mild sense of quietness, which is a major reason i went w/ magnaflow opposed to flowmaster

good idea or no?
