Crazy problem. I think it is actually called leather "spew" (nice eh?)

I get white flakes after about a day on my rear leather seat. If left for a week, it actually builds up higher and higher. I clean it with vinnigar, next day it comes back. It is (a really cold) winter here.

Anyone had this problem... know what to do?

If you actually have mold or mildew, you should use some type of cleaner/biocide, then use a leather conditioner after the cleaner has dried.

Really, your problem is moisture. Mold needs moisture to grow. Somehow you are getting moisture where it shouldn't be. Like Greeny said, you might want to check your trunk and your moonroof to see if there are leaks. With the moonroof, a lot of times the drain will clog and the water will find a way inside.

 

yeah. i was having a HORRIBLE smell every time i got into the car. finally i figured out that the problem was wetness in the trunk carpet. upon further investigation i found this: http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...m/IMG_0457.jpg

i swapped taillights and didn't pop the rubber caps back into place for the sidemarkers... water entered there. collected under the spare... bacteria had a field day.

 

You're right- I must check for leaks. I can tell you this. There are vents low on the trunk beside the wheel well. They are now gone post-bodywork. I thnk the problem originates there, rather than an actual leak? Just sheer humidity. I really must try to upload a pic f this. 1 week and the seat is spotted in flakes like you wouldn't believe.

Note: Apparantly leather "spew" is caused by too much leather conditioner, causing oils to not be absorbed in cold weather, It's been freaking cold up here, and it seems to fit the description.. white, flakey. If you have no idea what I;m talking about, check this out
