HVAC LED Conversion

Hey everyone,
I've been redoing my interior with LEDs for a few days now and I've seen that some people have done this swap but try as I might I can't find any information on a write up for it. I'm almost finished but for some reason the LEDs on the Rear Defroster and the A/C button won't light up for me. The rest do just fine, so I'm kind of confused. Should I try to put resistors on these LEDs? I'm tempted to do a write-up for what I've done so far but I don't have any "before" pics to show what it looked like to begin with. But if anyone has some information on this one please let me know ASAP, I need to try and finish this up before the end of the day so I can get my dash back together. Thanks in advance.
Jay

you probably soldered the defroster and ac led's backwards. Look on the circuit board and it will tell you where either the neg/pos goes. The leds in the clock rear defrost, windshield defrost and recirculate? don't need resistors as they are already 12v leds and resisitance is built into the board.

Only halfway done myself

I have them all facing the same way (I can tell because of how the internals of the led look). That's how I thought they all were when I took them off. In fact they were the first ones I did. I ended up putting a new blue LED on the AC but it didn't help. Unfortunately I don't have another red LED. I'm just confused. I'm going to try and get some pictures up of them.

Here are the pics I've uploaded of the board.

I plan on doing the security light next. But this is a very irritating hurdle. Like I said all the other buttons work just fine. And everything functions just fine. Those two LEDs just refuse to light up. Thanks for any help

well, just for the heck of it, turn those two that don't work around. The way the circuit board is designed may have put those two leds in a different orientation. On my board there was an indication of where one of the leads went. I can't remember if it showed where the positive lead went or the negative lead, but I'm sure they were marked.

my board has a marking above the LEDs. They are all showing the same orientation. But since I'm at a loss for any ideas I'm going to have to try it aren't I?

did u put in the little peice of plastic that distributes the light? for those 2 buttons its a separate peice.

As for me when i did mine i wired my leds to just a 12v power source (ash tray light) instead of messing w/ the board

i've been wanting to do the led conversions...from what you did they dont seem that difficult...just some soldering and stuff? i'm scared to break something on the board or something

the hardest part ends up getting everything apart to this point. It's not really difficult but I've almost screwed up a few pieces and certainly broken some plastic clips figuring it out. Other than that, yeah, it's just some soldering. I've found out that one of my red LEDs was actually bad so I've swapped that out. But I still can't figure out the AC button's LED. I tested with another LED (which I was only holding against the poles) but it was good for every other spot. But when I got it on the AC's LED it wouldn't shine. I was kind of getting pissed. I saw a tiny bit of light come out of it. But what I found funny wast that I hadn't even touched the ground yet. I don't want to put it together with just 1 light not working. But I need this thing finished.

we are talking about 2 different sets of lights. I'm not changing the BACKLIGHTS to LEDs. I'm changing the status lights to LEDs (the green lights underneath the button to let you know which vents you've selected). Thanks though

ah okay gotcha, i havent tried that one out yet, im assuming possibly it might have something to do w/ the fact that they come on when only pressed once instead of the button being depressed all the way.

Check where the button hits the switch on the board maybe?

that's the funny part. All the buttons work perfectly (i've tested them in the car). Nothing is defective. All the other lights work now besides the AC status light. And I've already tried 3 different LEDs on there. I'm thinking I'm just going to leave it at that for now. I live in NH, it's not like I normally use AC to begin with.

As for LEDs. Just get the big bundles that come with resistors from Hong Kong. I got 3mm (stock size) and mine are 3000mcd and they are way too bright. But all you'll need to do is take some 320 Sand paper and scuff up the LED so it disperses light better and you'll be all set. I suppose I'll take some pics of me putting it back together and try to do a write up.
