Stillen Exhaust Tips, Cold Air Intake Questions, and Gauges.. oh my!
Im probably getting a 96 GLE or GXE (Hopfully an LE), and I am going to start moding it, right when i get it.First thing will be some new headlights. Then I want somthing to make the engine sound better. Would adding an exhaust tip do the trick? I dont want a whole new exhaust as i just dont have that kind of money. I dont really care if it adds more HP, im just looking for the sound. So if they will work shouldi get Stillen? Im on a pretty low budget, so if there somthing cheaper then Ill go that way. Also how much are the stillens? Are they easy to install? I dont have to weld them or anything, do?And gimme any other info about the tips.
Next I want a cold air intake. I dont want the kind where i have to drill a hole in the car, Im not ready to do that.
What website can i get an intake from, and apx. how much are they? The MaxFag didnt seem to have any links for ordering these.
Lastly i was on the Stillen website and saw those gauges (http://www.stillen.com/sports/accessories/sportsa.html).
Where do you mount those? Do they come with whatever sensors are needed to actually make them work? And is the only real reason to get them for looks. Thats really why i want them, hehe.
OK thats all from me, for now! Thanks SO much!

No Cutting for the CAI, huh?
If you don't want to deal with cutting, then forget any CAI. You should look at POP chargers instead, like the one from JWT, here;

HELLLLLLOOOOOO??????? a tip will only make your car look dumb. no noise will increase at all. you will probly weld it on. you can't get a c.a.i. with out making the hole. i would do it if i were you. it sounds very, very, nice at w.o.t. For the gauges why the hell would you want them? if you had a supercharger or a turbo them its cool because they tell you your boost and temp but never for looks. you already have a tech. in the car.. for sound get a cattmann c.a.i. for about 200 bucks. your car will sound bad *** and be faster.
p.s don't be something your not........

Re: K
A POP charger sits in the engine bay, so it spends alot of its time sucking up warmefied engine air. The CAI, with all its plumbing sit just forward of the left wheel well, sucking in freash air just behing the left fog light.
Observations??
From this forum, the POP looses some low end torque compared to stock, probably due to the warm air it sucks in, and they say it makes up for it up top because of its shorter funnel length.
The CAI gives up NOTHING in lo end torque. In fact, it enhances it ALL over the rev band. I have one. It's NICE! And the growl? After 3K RPM, your car develops this nice ferrari (am I going to far with this analogy?) like sound all the way to the top. There has been mention of top end torque being somewhat dimished, I've felt that, but I think it may be because it beefed up the lo end so much that the loss up top may be more noticable than before. So, I beleive the CAI beef's up the car in all apsects, and just makes the VQ's top end fall off (afetr 5300 RPM) "more" apparent, but not weaker.
Since I've added a CAI, my mileage has gone up as well as my power, . . .well, after I got over the euphoria ;-)
If you can get over the cutting thing, you'll find it is well worth it, especially for the power.

an intake will knock your socks off if your looking for sound. The c.a.i. looks nicer in the engine bay. Both a c.a.i. and a regular intake will sound loud ay w.o.t. the pop or stillen intakes will cost about 175... and exhaust will be really loud depending on your setup. the best for you would be a c.a.i.,y-pipe, and a greedy cat-back.. LOUD!
I think Stillen's POP system goes for about $170, JWT POP system goes for about $130 (I think), and Place Racing's cold Air Intake goes for $220.
I have the cold air intake and it wasn't hard to install and the growl that it makes is awesome. The install for the POP systems is really simple, should take about 20 min. The hole that you have to cut for the CAI is not noticable unless your looking for it, it hides between the battery and the fender wall. I'd recommend the CAI, but otherwise get one of the POP systems, don't waste your money on a replacement K&N panel filter.

Pop!
So the POP is easy, but what kind of sound am i going to get from it? If i were to get a POP id get the JWT, will that produce a sound better than what i have now? The only thing i am sad about is loosing performance. Thats not fun. How much is a cheap CAI?

I haven't noticed any low end torque loss. I can take off as fast as I used to with stock air box.
the pop intake is made by JWT, Stillen makes one thats about the same. stillen's looks better. The c.a.i. is the nicest out of them all. they will all make the car louder. i just like the slight advantage of a c.a.i. plus it looks damn good.
