What Kinda shift **** do you have?
Just curious to see what kinda shift ***** you guys got.... Heres mine

Yes there are 3 allen key screws that tighten it down. You can crank on them prettty hard, ive had mine come loose a few times, but i figure its due to the vibrations and the alumium shifter on my STS. I think ill throw some lock-tite on them.
When i had it on my stock shifter i never had any problems with it coming loose!

Try a round of electrical tape on the top part of the shifter shaft, then install the **** over the tape, the tape will minimize vibrations, and will hold the shifter screws in place.
Be sure to only go one round(single layer) on the tape, or the shifter may not fit over the tape.
My shifter **** done the same thing many times, then i tried the fix below. works fine now
