so i needed new tires pretty bad and i found "Prime Wells" at firestone for about $65 a tire.

i didnt put them on yet so if they are bad tires i can always take them back and go somewhere else

any experience with these?

 

stay away from the generics like that man.

they have high end sumitomos or generals for like $55 a tire (at the 205-65-15 size, which is the size i assume youre getting)

 

if you can't afford more than $65 / tire .... sell your car and buy a bike (the pedal kind!)

Think of it this way .... your tires are the first / last thing between your ability to drive the car (steering, breaking) and the road and all of it's surfaces (wet, dry, hot, cold) ... you get the idea. Don't go way over board on tires either, but spend the money, get good tires (name brand, not some "XYZ" company - even if Firestone or GoodYear tell you ... oh, those are just as good, they're our "generics").

 

ya ill check tirerack right now and yes thats the size i am getting

as for them telling me they are good i never listen because i am a salesman after commission myself and i know not to trust them.

i was definitly looking for the cheap way out.

 

my Sumitomo HTR H4 205-65-15s were $55 a piece on tirerack.

I think these are the tires that my friend had on his crx for a while. They sucked ******** in terms of grip but showed practically no signs of wear even under severe abuse.

 

i drive about 92 on the wet highways around here without worrying. ive never broken loose or hydoplaned in the past 7000 miles or 6 months driving on these.


and the treadwear, especially for an AS tire, is remarkable. they had 70-80% life left when i sold them last week.

 

also keep a sharp.....more like dull lookout for WANLIS.....heard they arent so good eihter, but yet cheap.

 

This is the first time I have EVER heard "Sumitomo" and "good quality namebrand" in the same sentence, except maybe as an antonym. I had a nasty flat and no money at 5pm on a friday with a 90mi trip ahead and I wound up getting a Prime Well Ps850 tire. from an asthetics standpoint, i like the tread design, the compound doesnt look like its rock-hard either. unfortunately i havent really put it to a gung-ho test, but my initial impression is that it's a half-decent budget touring tire. AKA not the most grip, but good milage rating. Yahoo answers say they're a decent, reliable chinese import, and the guy at the shop said they were Korean. I could totally see these being a "house make" from someone like Kuhmo, which would mean they're pretty decent. Everyone else is right though, if you're not in a situation like i was, tirerack it, do some research, and trust the impressions shared in other threads here.

 

I have prime wells on my maxima and they are fine, a little noisy but they handle awesome in the snow. I know they are cheap but they came on my max when I bought it in December 07. They were brand new at the time so we'll see how many miles I get out of em.

 

i got some primewells from tires plus, biggest mistake i made. i got these right before winter and 3 months down the road they are already going bald. yeah i do push my car to its limits but seriously they should last longer than 3 months. i never even did a ebrake burn-out with them. i had some viva 2 and those things lasted me like a years before i had to get these primewells and i did chirp 2nd and 3rd all the time on the viva's. the primewells ride good and everything i just think the longevity of them are crap! and for like 5 more dollars a tire you could get something alot better that these.

and dont even get me started on the techs at tires plus. Id freaking rather go to wal-mart before i even think about going back there.

Interesting post. I have used both Sumitomos (HTR's) and i am just using up my Fuzion HRi's now. I loved them both, but my Sumitomos lasted longer (higer treadwear rating/same driving habits).

I am currently undecided on trying these Primewell Pz900's or going with my Fuzions again. I absolutely hammered both tires. The Sumitomo HTR's defienately have AMAZING wet traction to be unmatched at $40 something a tire. I by no means am light on my car. I hammer daily.

The Fuzion's where better dry and not to bad in snow. Firestone gave me four Fuzion HRi's for 390ish. I just got a quote for four PRimewell Pz 900's for $340 installed with tax.

hmmm little scary low if you ask me.. but I may do it just to test them out.

 

They are great tires. I have 3 mazdas that my kids drive. Great tires. Go through the snow with ease. I would reccomend!

 

i bought a set of 4 Ling Long tires for $300 shipped. I dunno how they perform yet, the salon is 2.2 miles away from the house and we don't take the Maxi out of town. We take the "other" car.
For that price i couldn't say no.
I did have a set of Kuhmo Ecsta's on there and paid overr $600, they lasted for over 40k miles.
Never heard of LLong tires but i guess i'll find out how good they are.

I bought a set of p2900 bl205/50r15 they roar like mud mudgrips !!!

 

For $5-10 more you can get Falken Ziex ZE912's, which are absolutely fantastic tires, they're the next set I'm getting, since my 512's are on the fritz, but when they were good, they were DAMN good.

 

Well, I got free sumitomo htr zII or some random name like that for free from a buddy.. I never heard of them til then but thats what I'm getting once the current ones are gone. I've abused the crap out of them and have pushed em in the rain and boy they're pretty good.

On my 3rd gen I have Goodyear Assurance TripleTreds which I bought brand new, those are also excellent all season passenger tires, they give you grip up the *** whether rain or snow but they wear a little fast if you abuse them, they're also about 150 a piece (215/55/16) unless you get them at tirerack for 117..

If its an emergency and you dont plan on abusing your tires by going to the track or doing any maniac driving then go for them but remember, tires can save you from many accidents you may encounter. My tripletreds have saved my life just about 17 times within the first year of owning them
