Pulstar Spark plugs

I was reading modified mag. and they did a dyno comparison of the pulstar spark plugs on the VQ35. I'm thinking of getting them for my VQ30. Does anyone have these and are there drive ability issues.

A friend has them on his vehicle. Seems to like them. No feedback about them though. I would be curious to hear about your experience with them.

I ordered them. Lets see if I feel a butt dyno difference. I'll follow up.

I highly doubt you will feel a butt dyno difference with just changing spark plugs unless you have like 200k on your original plugs. You might notice it idles better or starts up better.

I don't know. the dyno is proven to show 10 hp increase. I might feel something. LOL. The spark plugs are close to 60k mile end life.

No..they can't..

I suggest only using NGK spark plugs in a nissan.

LOL u will feel NOTHING. Guaranteed.LOL. Were you there for the before and after dyno? If you honestly believe that you will gain 10hp and 7.2ft. tq. rethin what your doing and do some research.

I wish I had the money to pay for a before and after dyno.

Point in case, Modified Magazine did a dyno comparison showing both the pre and post results of the spark plugs on a VQ35. They did 3 runs with a max increase as specified in my Original Post. In the article they also laughed at spark plugs giving an increase but its a proving ground section and I think that's enough for me to say yea they will provide more spark.

Also, doing research was only through the magazine and the website. I asked the question to get the opinion but no real answers. I guess I shouldn't post an answer on how my findings will be also.

Doing a quick search, it appears that only a 1hp gain was realized with these Pulstar plugs. Another thread stated that Motortrend did their own testing and saw only a 1hp gain as well.

Yea, I just read that thread while you were posting. Lots of uncertainty. I have a WB02 so the first place i'm going to be looking for a change is my A/F. So, if my A/F changes it might be safe to say that the spark plugs adds something.

I wouldn't recommend them to the average person though. I'm looking to get every ounce of HP.

I am too. I am at the point where I would drop $150 in a heartbeat if I knew for certain I would gain 10HP safely across the board. Shoot, I would pay $150 for 5hp and be happy.

How about we start a pool for a real dyno session? I'll contribute the first $5.

I'll contribute $5.00. what i'm going to do is take a snap shop of my A/F before I install them. than do one afterwards. I have the PLX-R300 so this might be some proof. I'm already tuned too.

In the FAQ section, they say their plugs last around 50k miles. Iridiums last 100k or more. That doubles the cost of Pulstars over 100k miles, plus having to remove the intake to get to the rear bank a second time on 5.5 gen.

I read in modified mag also, their test car was a newer model 350Z. Only had a couple thousand miles on the engine when stock pluges were swapped for the Pulstar plugs.Yes they also had a dyno graph of the gains. I am real skeptical only because Pulstar plugs advertises in Modified Mag. So it might just be a marketing scheme....Or i might be wrong.....

If one is worried about them wearing out, you could cryo them. That is suppose to extend the life of them. I do this for all my spark plugs.

Someone on my350z.com just installed these and did a dyno. Something like 5hp but he did other things so the dyno was inconclusive.

I would use that dyno to judge anything. That car's numbers are awful.

go NGK and never look back

if u want to pay $25 a plug and who knows how long those things are going to last, with there advertised amount of power going through the plug, i think there life will be considerable short then a Iridium or platinum plug which have also been shown to give u small gains in HP and TQ

just read on there sight:

Q: How long does Pulstar™ last?

A: Pulstar™ lasts as long as most spark plugs - about 50,000 miles depending on the condition of your vehicle and driving habits.

in short expect about the 20-30K out of these plugs, save Urself some time money and probably some problems and get some NGK plugs, our motors are known to be picky about their plugs.

btw in ur quest for a good spark plug whatever U do, dont buy Bosch

^^^ Totally agree. I read and called pulstar a few months ago and in the end paying MORE money and doing MORE maintenance for MAYBE 1hp just isnt worth it. NGK Iridium IX's i just put in and called it a day. Im at 60k and im good for another consistent 60k from NGK.

But uh deff post those Dyno results! haha

My Review

1st. Don't Buy Them.

Reason: Since putting the spark plugs in my car has experienced horrible driveability issues. During normal driving the car appears to be running healthy, but as soon as you step on it the car will begin to bog. Infact the spark plugs put my ecu into safe mode P0605. While at a traffic light or during heavy traffic the car would sporadically stall. I would have to use both peddles just to keep it from stalling.

Again, horrible plugs for the VQ30. Don't waste your money.

I don't know how I missed this......Holy cow! Did you call Pulstar to discuss the issues you're having? Going to ask for a refund?

And what's this about people going to learn. How bout taking a risk and trying something out. It was worth a shot but heck my lost your gain of knowledge. Just like Bosch. Someone had to try to find out there crap.

I just put in bosch plat +4 plugs in my 2k vq30. Noticed an increase in throttle response. Thought this would solve my engine fooding on startup but didn't. The problem happens when the engine is warm I shut it off come back try to start it and I just hear the starter sometimes it fires but only for a second and vibrates quite a bit(sounds terrible). Then I smell gas through the vents and under the hood. I generally have to wait 15 or so minutes and try it again... Extreemly annoying! Does anyone know of a solution to this problem hope its not a leaky injector or ecm issue???

Should have went with ngk irridium

Pull the Bosch plugs, put in NGK's.
Pull the manifold and then pull the injectors and check/replace as necessary.
