i was planning on getting some g35 18's on my 91 maxima. they are 18x8 in specs.wanna get some ideas how this would look on stock suspensions (no drop/lowered). would it be better if i get some lowering springs?

any suggestions on what sizes of tires should i be getting for them? is it possible to get tires that would make my car look "dropped".

I love those wheels on the car. it may look a little weird at first, but hey you can always chose to lower it if you feel it would look better. if you do it, post pics of the stock suspension and those wheels. heck, you may just jump over to the photoshop section and ask them to put a set on a non-lowered car. if you chose to go lower, replace both springs and struts. the stock ones seem to blow pretty quick.

as for making it looked dropped, bigger tires(larger profile) may help. keep in mind, its gonna be hard to find tire sizes to make the speedo close to correct.

 

Whats the offset on those? I had 17x8 in the rears briefly and they rubbed the body when the car dipped. I think those were +33mm, but I have to check.

 

i think theyre 30 mm offsets.not sure though. were u stock on suspensions when you had those on?

 

your car will look goofy without a drop, period. Pretty much any 17s or bigger just don't look right without some kind of lowering done to the car.

I think someone had a set of those wheels on before, but I can't remember who it was.

 

Is see in my area putting g35 wheels on their third gens all the time. I looks sick with or without the drop. I'm a big fan of dropping however. Everything looks better low to me. I think the 350z 5 spoke look even hotter on third gen.

 

i was kinda thinking it would be better off dropped than stock. went to wheel works last week to get my rotors and brakes changed and the guy told me that its about time to change my struts too. so i guess its struts+springs that i need to save for. how do u determine how much drop (inches) should u need?

any brands that u guys recommend? links maybe? thanks.

Eibachs are ~1.3" drop and that is about the safest you can go without cutting suspension travel too short. Koni (adjustable) or Tokicos are a good choice for struts, If you live somewhere cold the Toks get a little stiff in cold weather but nothing unbearable.

 

Do you guys think with these bigger sizes of rims like 18's and such put extra strain on our transmissions? Generally bigger rims are heavier and our cars came with 15's from factory. Just a thought. BTW+1 on the eibach springs. I dont bottom out with mine and the only thing I scrape on bad roads is Blemhco's stage 2 tie bar

 

Just normal everyday driving is hard on the vg autotragic .

But no, a slightly heavier wheel(maybe 5-6lbs per wheel) is not going to kill your transmission. The general weakness of the vg auto simply kills itself.

 

What do the stocker SE's weigh? Like 15-16lbs?

Yeah, that's a good deal as long as the rims are in good+ shape.

Hey, I had 350Z 18s on my max with stock suspension and it was horrible...the look of the car was sweet, but there was vibration in the steering wheel and I got bump steer too on the car, it was horrible, I bought some 350 17s and I'll see how those are, when my max body project is done...

 

those are my old 18x8 g35 coupe wheels.....miss that car.

i was on intrax and tokicos thats why it looked so sweet. but i did roll my rear fender lips in so i wouldnt rub.

As heavy as they are i would recommend something lightweight. i lost off the line power with them, but didnt notice til i switched to some lightweight 17s.

That's why I stayed with 16s for a daily driver. Lighter weight, slightly taller sidewall for more cush and less crash, with just as much rubber on the road.

 

what do you mean you loss off the line power?

 

It takes more engine power to drive heavier wheels to the same speed in the same amount of time then it does lighter wheels. Larger rims are almost ALWAYS heavier then lighter wheels.

Simply put, the larger the wheel you run, the longer your 60' times will be.

Not only do you lose acceleration, but larger wheels can also DECREASE your handling since you are adding unsprung weight to your car. You gain some back if your sidewall is shorter (typical) and more back if your treadwidth increases. But larger diameter rims aren't always wider and rim width is the FIRST limit to your treadwidth.

Gas mileage can also decrease since you will have to push the loud pedal harder to get the same amount of acceleration as when you have smaller/lighter wheels.

 

You gotta know what wheels to get. You can get 17s and benefit in every way, shape, and form. I would never rock 16s. Thats the same look as 15s in my eyes.

 

those 18x8 g35 wheels weigh about 25.6lbs each.

my suggestion is to get some 17s and save some weight and probably save some moeny on tires as 18 inch tires usually jump in price compared to 18s or 19s.....

but no matter what wheel size you get your wheel gap will remain the same as long as you get the right size tires...

i currently have infinity fx35 18x8 rims with 225/40/18. a bit heavy but it looks nice on my car and i like how they look. i had my 17's too long and i got bored of them. these have a 40mm offset btw. drives nice too.

I am new to the forum and currenty own a 93 Maxima SE with just over 70k on it (for real no lie) and have after market PRIME 16's but need new tires. I also HATE the gap the 16's create and was wondering if the g35 rims are the way to go. I am a big fan of the 91 white max se, but not really sure if I want to drop the car because it can create so many problems. I really wanna make this ***** look sharp! Any suggestions?

 

what problems are you referring to? camber can be corrected(w/camber bolts), new (proper) struts wont die. cant think of any other problems, except the wallet

yes, the g35 rims will fit and just use the eibach springs with tokico shocks and you'll be fine.

definetly drop your car if you get rims...not only does it ride better it will look WAY better with the rims...mine used to look like a monster truck when it wasnt dropped

and while were on the topic of rims...i been thinking of selling mine to someone i know locally (i'm probably getting a new car soon thats why) How much do you think is a fair price to sell them at? the tires have about 25% left i'd say...im thinking if i can get $500 it would be great...any thoughts
