New guy with an '03 (update! lamin-x)

I signed up not too long ago and have been poking around. I just passed 15 posts, so I'm posting up my '03 stocker.

About the car; It was my father's daily since it was purchased new in '03 and was maintained well mechanically, if not so much cosmetically. He bought a Subaru Legacy GT as a replacement, and handed this beauty down to me. It currently shows 120k miles.

^^^ Got rock chips?

Anyways, I'm a poor college student, so I don't really have any plans for the car. Not to mention its an automatic GLE, if I was going to put a lot of money into a car, it would have to be a manual. All I've done is the hanger GAB and I have some yellow Lamin-X on order to cover up the cracked and somewhat discolored fogs. I may also red out the tails.

I used to drive a '93 Crown Vic, and just for grins, here she is:

Thanks all. I would love to do a few tweaks, but sadly, college and the general cost of living takes away any chance of significant modifications.

At least do something about the rusted exhaust tip.

I know what you mean about money, I was there once. But if you really want to mod it, you'll find a way to save the money little by little. Like you said, it is an automatic, so maybe not...
Maybe you could go for cosmetic things and not performance???

Anyway, enjoy your maxima!

Nothing wrong with an auto, but he mentioned he didn't really want to mod an auto.

Yup. 225/45.

Thanks again everyone. It is a nice step up from the old Vic, although that was a solid car. And yes, I will have to address that exhaust tip. It's rusted, disgusting, and not OEM.

Get 225/50 next time. Those 45s look way too small and stock is 225/50 (well, 215/55 for GLE's but you can use 225/50). Otherwise looks good. It's nice to know the vehicle's entire history when buying a car with that many miles.

I agree with you 100%. Those tires are definitely too small. My dad isn't the most car savvy guy in the world and got them because the salesman told them they would fit . Ah well, when its time for tires, it'll be corrected.

Nice ride man, looks clean.

As far as the exhaust tip, I sanded mine down and sprayed it with some clear engine enamel (good to 500 degrees). That was just a few months ago and it's already rusting again a bit. Anybody have any tips outside of just replacing the muffler?

Update: You guys were partially correct. I had to do a few visual fixes, there are still a few to do.

What's left? maybe some redded out tails, and fixing the rusty tip.

A cheap mod (if done correctly) is to clear out your orange turn signal.

Would look great on your silver car

^^^ That's one of the things I've been considering. I just need to find an oven that no one will mind smelling like adhesive for awhile.

Well shoot, I didn't even think to do a carfax! Luckily, I was able to find out its entire maintenance history from my father, who owned it since new. The exhaust tip is rusted because its a cheap-o replacement muffler and tips, and the fogs are yellow because I put yellow lamin-X over them (the cell phone pics aren't the greatest, I'm aware) Thanks for the concern though!
