Factory Alarm

Does anyone know how to activate the factory alarm? I have a friend who bought a 01 Maxima from an auction but the Key Fob's do not do anything: Doesn't open or lock doors, trunk, etc. There is no lights flashing or anything when she presses the button... Would her best bet would be to take it to the dealership?

The remotes somehow are not programmed to operate the OEM brain of the factory alarm. You should search for programming functions or take it to a dealer and have them sync up the remotes to the alarm/keyless entry of that car.

Try this from the drivers seat:

1. close & lock all doors
2. key in & out ignition 6 times (hazards flash 2x?)
3. turn the key to the acc position
4. unlock and relock the doors with the switch on the driver's door
5. hit the lock button on the remote. If it worked the hazards should flash again
6. remove the key, get out and close the door
7. try the remote

All is well. It wasn't programmed but i was able to follow the directions and get it taken care of. Is there anything else you can do with the car when its in the programming mode?

What if you successfully programmed a new keyfob to lock/unlock, but the alarm/horns don't come on when you hit lock on the keyfob but then manually unlock a door [from the inside] & open the door?

the horn sounding is a feature that you can turn on and off. You press and hold both the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously for more than 2 seconds to change to mode. When the car accepts the change, the hazard lights will flash and the horn will chirp (if you are turning on the horn).

If you have the horn "chirp" turned on, the horn chirps once and the hazard lights flash twice when you press the lock button. If the horn is turned off, only the the lights flash.

But I don't understand what you mean by "but then manually unlock a door [from the inside] & open the door?"

What he means is that you roll your driver or passenger side window down. Then lock the car, (the alarm should be activated) reach in either window unlock the car then open the door. When you open the door your alarm should go off, if not then there is a problem that needs to be addressed. It could be a blown fuse a dead horn or something more serious that requires more specialized attention, good luck.

Exactly. I know all about the chirp & how to enable/disable it. If I roll the window down a little, get out & hit 'lock' on the keyfob, I get my horn "chirp" & the doors do lock. I then reach in, unlock the door and pull it open. I don't hear anything.

Update: nothing's wrong with my alarm. I just figured out that the alarm doesn't activate until the security light goes from a solid red to a blinking red. That's why it didn't activate as soon as I would lock.

Thought my battery was dying until I read this post. My pocket must have de-chirped the alarm. <3 the Max Forums
