I know the rear beam is done, but do you guys think there is frame damage because of it tearing off the car?

reason why I ask is my insurance adjuster put the estimate at $5200 assuming there is no frame damage. If there is any frame damage the car will be put over the limit and will be totalled


if you want the story behind it, basically car was hit by a passing lincoln, and I woke up to see my car like this yay!

Frame? It's unibody construction, there is no frame on your car.

There is a front sub frame bolted onto the unibody, your front suspension is then bolted onto that.

The rear suspension setup is simply bolted onto the unibody, no frame back there.

If the unibody is torn up, then your ins. co. will probably total it.

 

Whether Unit-body or Body-on:

Must be put of frame machine = Frame damage.

The guy is just curious and wants opinions. I say, frame damage.

 

Park it facing the other way and maybe someone will hit the other side to straighten it out?

thats what I'm thinking, I'm pretty sure the beam cant move like that without pulling the lateral link off the frame and probably tweaking it...

but the adjustor didnt necessarily think so =p

oh well... hope the bastards let me know quickly...

 

It's done.
RQP = $2500 to fix. each door = $1200 to fix. rear axle = $2000 to fix = about $7k. more than the car is worth. She's done. Sorry mang. at least you weren't in it.

you can't tell for sure until you do.

 

Doesn't look good. I wouldn't trust the fix for the rear beam after it's been torn out like that. Even if it was fixed, it looks like you might be doom'ed to alignment problems in the back.

yea we'll see what happens when i tow it to the body shop, I'm pretty sure its gone, and if its not... its gonna be alot of work to fix

doesn't look too bad but its hard to tell from looking from the picture. Look at the unibody's frame rails and looked for cracked paint and kinks

 

I did almost the exact same thing to an a33b's rear beam, except there was barely any body damage, just the tiniest bit pushed in on the fenderwell lip! It was amazing really. Replaced the beam with one from the junk yard for $150, the trailing arms (Or whatever nissan calls them) have notches in them (crumple zones), it bent right there. 2 years later still drives straight as an arrow and no odd tire wear, even the rear wheel bearings are still ok

Dude if you're getting $5k check your better off running with the money, throwing a beam on it, maybe 2-doors if you can find silver ones, and putting it on craigslist for $1500, just my .02

What if you told them you wanted it repaired at an Infiniti Dealership ? Im sure it'd be totalled with their quote !

Because if the insurance company isn't going to total it, atleast you can have it semi-close to as new as possible.
I hate when insurance companies try to save their money and jipp their customers. I honestly think that car is totalled if they quote the repairs properly with OEM parts.

 

Whats the value of the car and whats the value of the damage, when my Father's Maxima got hit they where gonna repair it with used Nissan parts to keep the cost down but since the car that ran the red hit the passenger side front door, and pushed everything in they totaled it cause of the severe body damage.

I'd be concerned with tire wear when you get the car back but if it's a reputable shop it should be just as good as new

 

well my buddys shop has a completely computerized frame machine, brand new top of the line, so there does have to be a slight pull around the door, but everything else seems straight.

I got all the parts I needed body wise, doors, rear beam, rear suspension, so I jsut have to wait a bit and everything will work out.

Its not my only car, but its the second car hit by hit&runs/uninsured drivers in less than a year... so it sucks.

the crap part is is because this car only had liability, and the other party has no license, no insurance, no nothing, they are only giving me 3500 to fix the car so I do have to use used OEM parts =/

also when a car gets 10 years, or gets down to a certain value, used or non OEM parts are the only parts insurance companies are willing to use alot of the time.
