Is ECU Replacment Plug-n-Play?

I've been told by my dealer that my A/C compressor isn't cycling on because I've blown the compressor's ground in the ECU. Therefore, the ECU must be replaced.

As far as replacing the ECU with a used one, is this a "pull the old one, install the new one and I'm on my way" type of repair or is there more to it, like reprogramming and that kind of neat stuff?

What year? If a '99, it must be reprogrammed. Otherwise, plug and play.

And you have tried to diagnose your issue yourself, haven't you? Wouldn't always trust what the dealer says (though I've worked for Nissan before). Could be incorrect, from ignorance or from malice (ECU is a hell of a ticket for the service writer).

of course, it's a 99.

99.5 SE L, to be exact.

... no, i've done no diagnosis myself. and you're right, i'm finding more and more that the jokers at the dealership are just that... jokers.

based on reading searched posts, it sounds like it could be a harness issue.

don't necessarily consider myself especially adept when it comes to the electricals.

got any tips as far as looking into this on my own?

Do you have a Haynes or Chiltons manual? They go over the simple steps for diagnosing AC, I believe. Mostly checking to make sure it isn't cycling because of too low or too high pressure in the system, checking wire harness continuity, things of that nature.

..just out of curiosity, what's different about the 99 that requires it to be reprogrammed? and how would you do it? ---not asking for a detailed step by step..just something to satisfy my curiosity

lol, nissan dealer jokers:

...was getting my "free" alternator on the recall...just a month ago haha

Nissan employee talkign to an old man who just had his car serviced: Mr. Jones, we got that problem taken care of for you, however, we and our technicians recommend you put nitrogen in your tires for better gas mileage.

Mr. Jones: What's that sonny?

Nissan: Nitrogen, in your tires. It's better for your car!

Mr. Jones: Oh, really...well I don't know much about that.

Nissan: Here's a pamplet, do you want it?

Mr. Jones: Go ahead

.......that stuff is expensive and worthless......
